  • Greg Wrubell tweeted the following this morning:

"Bronco on playing TCU at Cowboys' Stadium: 'It just made sense... Eventually our program will have to beat TCU two years in a row.'"

Er, does Bronco know something we don't know? We're not scheduled to play TCU anymore Bronco, now that we're independent. Unless....

Another thought regarding Big XII expansion: Why would the Big XII want to destroy the Big East if their goal, as rumored, is to get Notre Dame to join. Wouldn't that make Notre Dame less willing to join the Big XII? Doesn't make sense to me at all. If that's their goal, they should just wait for the other Big East teams to be eaten up by the SEC (or someone else), and then make the move to lure Notre Dame.

Nice catch, but why would beating them two years in a row be meaningful enough to merit a comment by Bronco... If we both end up in the Big 12, we'll "need" to beat them every year unless we're in different divisions.

Maybe there is a series that is in the works??

I wouldn't read too much into that comment. He was specifically referring to 06-07 when we did beat them two years in a row.

          Here is the quote:
"Eventually our program will have to, as it once did two years in a row (wins over TCU in 2006 and 2007)...be able to compete and beat TCU or teams like that, at a consistent level, so we can move the program forward."

          • 2:07 p.m. Update:

While we wait, here are a couple of things I've been able to nail down in the past several days from pretty good sources... Nothing for sure on any fronts yet but interesting to note, nonetheless.

            • BYU not likely to join the Big 12. There was interest from both parties, but there are a lot of hang ups that make this marriage tough to envision.

this is probably as accurate or not as anything else that's been said, but as a Ute Fan that wants BYU in the Big XII, this stuff is simply maddening and puzzling.

If this is indeed the case, it is so fucking idiotic...

              • Independent BYU has been considered as a potential 10th member since the initial A&M secession, but problems exist with a lack of geographic appeal and also the university’s stance against competing on Sunday’s.

lack of geographic appeal? really. I don't get it. Is it simply time zone related?

I love West Va. as much as the next guy, but having been to Morgantown on a number of occassions, I can't think of a worse place to travel to.

I hope this is just strategically leaked info to get BYU to cave on some final issue.

Cave away! I think 99% of the fans would give up whatever it is that is holding this thing up in a heartbeat in order for BYU to get in.

Don't forget a rumored series against Army.

Yes. We are the ninety-and-nine, and if BYU leaves us to seek out independence I am going to vomit.

Is Sunday play the final issue?

Or is it some rubbish about being able to bookend a rebroadcasted game with BYU Choppers?

How many games does ESPN guarantee to broadcast. Between BYU v. Oklahoma, Texas, Okie State, K-State, Texas Tech, TCU, etc. won't the equivalent number be picked up by ESPN/Fox Sports Amarillo anyway?

I assume BYU knows its bargaining position at this point, but did pissing off the Big 12 off already occur? Did BYU already appear to be too big of a pain in the ass? BYU fans can mock the reduced Pac 12 payoff all they want, but the fact is it was a no-brainer move. Hopefully it isn't about something like that.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
