I'd imagine that if we somehow get West Virginia into this gawdfersakin freeferall known as the Big 12, it's gonna be like combining the BeverlyHillbillys w/ the Bad News Bears w/ Caddyshack. The Yutes will be envious toodling around sunny southern Kalifornia while the Cougars are landing in Columbia or Mancrappie or Morgantown w/ the smell of burning couches/outhouses filling the air.

If they're off for Wyoming, then they're off for Utah and CSU, too. It's the same source.

I'll guess home attendance means nothing in your eyes for the same reason apparel sales are meaningless. Anyone can just walk up to a stadium and buy a ticket, right? Check that -- you can do that in Wyoming, but not in SLC. I'm guessing you'll blame Wyoming's lousy TV ratings on 90 percent of the state not having cable or satellite, either.

I looked on both the csu and utah websites and couldn't find any numbers. They most likely are off for everyone, but we don't know which way. Regardless, alumni does not equal fan.

People attend or don't attend games for any number of reasons above and beyond fandom. That's why attendance isn't particularly meaningful.

I'd be interested in seeing some numbers regarding your ratings claim. Some 10 year average regular season ratings would probably be the best.

It's been mentioned several times that the Big 12 cannot drop below 10 teams without damaging their TV contract. With the Big East saying they will enforce the 27 month notice of departure for any school that wants to leave and also talking of upping the exit fees, BYU appears to be the only one in a position to step in and be that 10th team next season (apart from ND, Army, or Navy of course).

Chip Brown: Why OU wanted Beebe to step down...

A high-placed source in the Big 12 has confirmed that Dan Beebe will step down as conference commissioner.

Beebe got a raise and a three-year extension to his contract, which has four years left (including this year) at an annual salary of just less than $1 million per year.

Orangebloods.com reported on Tuesday night that the Big 12 Board of Directors had indicated to Beebe that it wanted a change in leadership.

CBSSports.com has reported that former Big 8 commissioner Chuck Neinas will serve as interim commissioner of the Big 12.

Beebe got credit for bringing the conference's TV partners to the table last year and securing the commitment of ABC/ESPN to continue paying the Big 12 as if it was a 12-team league with a championship game despite going down to 10 schools.

But some have said Beebe made some critical missteps in trying to hold the Big 12 together this time around, including holding a conference call with the league's presidents on Sept. 2 without Texas and Oklahoma, sources told Orangebloods.com.

During that conference call, Beebe told the presidents to "work on Texas," because Beebe believed the Pac-12 wouldn't invite Oklahoma without Texas, sources said.

In the end, Beebe was right. But Oklahoma sources resented Beebe for that, and OU sources told The Oklahoman the Sooners wanted Beebe removed as commissioner going forward.

And, a fair number of Utah graduates who are big BYU fans.

How many national championship games has the Pac played in? How many have the Big 12 played in? Anyone can cherry pick stats. This is exercise is pointless.
