I don't understand how someone could attend or be employed by the University of Utah and hold a temple recommend. Are they not affiliating with an organization that is opposed to the LDS Church?

Utah self corrects if it gets too far adrift. Back when I was getting my MBA the elected homecoming queen was a male. The student paper ripped on mormons and their influence constantly.

So an LDS student ran for student body president denouncing the student paper and the liberal movement on campus. He won by a landslide.

Everyone I have ever told the story to has asked if it is true. When I tell them it is, everyone has responded like you, "cool story".

Not sure. It has been a long time since I have told the story.

While they are at it make the state change their name to Deseret in honor of their old friend Brigham.
This is just an educated guess. I assume it's because the Utah Utes sports teams borrow their name from the Utah Utes and not the Colorado Utes.

That's probably how the people back in DC differentiate the Utes as well.

No need to play the victim card. I've made myself clear that I like pretty much everyone here, a lot; I've said that repeatedly even out of your presence and have done so a couple of times this week. As a BYU fan said the other day, it's hard to be made a pariah over a church position you reject. I think most here reject the HC altogether and particularly the parts of it that express hatred to gays. So I get why you feel you're being treated unfairly because of your religious affiliation. But it's not you that's being excluded from the Big 12, etc. It's BYU, which is a department and creature of the LDS Church. I can vouch as well as anyone to the high character and kindness of most LDS church members. The problem with the LDS Church, like Syria or Russia, is its leaders. And like Syrians or Russians, LDS members and BYU supporters suffer because its leaders are bad. Moreover, it's not me that's excluding BYU from the Big 12, or issuing the boycotts that are sure to come; I'm just delivering the message.

                          • So Monte was saying on twitter that his BYU sources say that it's about 70-30 against expansion, but that Holmoe has a trick up his sleeve in case expansion falls through. Not sure what that means.
