I have seen this kid play and he is not bad. That GPA, however, could be a deal breaker for a Pac-10+2 team.

Michigan has become desperate in the recent years. It started with the loss to Utah.

"My first year I had to play O-line," said Cottonwood's sophomore quarterback. "That was a bad experience. I almost quit."
In little league football those boys who weigh over a certain amount have to be lineman. He was the smallest of the bigger kids.
"I was a lot taller," said Bateman, who has led the Colts to a 3-0 start. "The next year, I came back and made weight so I could play quarterback."
This making weight thing in youth football is ridiculous. Every year you have 11- 14 yo kids cutting 20 lbs, running in plastic suits and spitting in cups like wrestlers trying to make weight. Last year, a kid on my son's team cut 20 lbs from 5'11" 170 down to 150 so he didn't have to play OL. The kid is a basketball player and already had next to no fat on him when he started. He looked like Skeletor when he weighed in.

There was a weight limit in my son's Little league Football but there was not any position limitations. The 9-10 year olds had to be under 125 at the start of the season and under 135 at the beginning of the playoffs. If you were overweight at the beginning of the year you player up a division but no limitations on position were enforced. I thought it worked out well.

My 10YO son's league just got rid of weight limits this year. His team will still likely go undefeated for the 3rd year in a row, but some of the other teams have added some beef. One kid on the team they scrimmage with once a week is as big as I am (as you learned Friday that isn't that terribly impressive). I have no problem with letting a kid play with his age group whatever his height and/or weight is. It isn't the kid's fault he is big why penalize him by making him play with older kids or playing a position he isn't suited for.

I wish there was a way to do it. If you don't have weight limits then a team will just hand off the ball to the overgrown 250 lb 12 yo who likely will never play a down of RB in his life past age 14. But if you have weight limits then guys like this Cottonwood QB or my son's friend will either have to play OL or lose unhealthy amount of weight to qualify.
There was a weight limit in our league I played in. I was going to have to cut about 20 lbs to play. Wasn't happening. However, a player who had made weight quit and I ended up playing as Ron Smirk the entire season. I didn't look any bigger than a lot of kids out there. And some were far bigger than me. I guess they all had a couple of Ron Smirk's as well.
