  • Not that we couldn't guess this but,

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Kansas, Missouri and Kansas State are on the Mountain West's radar amid a continuing shakeup of the Big 12.
But Baylor isn't considered a candidate to join the conference, with TCU standing staunchly in its way, the Fort Worth newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources.
"The Mountain West wants to be a national player and continue to grow in that realm," MWC commissioner Craig Thompson said in a conference call with reporters Friday. "We are extremely interested in BCS automatic qualification. We are simply trying to get to the level where each and every year a Mountain West team is playing in a BCS bowl game."
TCU would mount a lobbying effort against Baylor if the Bears are left out of the conference-realignment mix, the Star-Telegram reported.

      • Here's what bugs me about this whole sorry spectacle: The movers and shakers behind it all are fixing something that is not broken. I would have been fine with the situation we had: The MWC adding Boise, trying to get better and become an AQ conference. There was nothing wrong with that, or with the Big 12, or the PAC 10. The whole thing makes me sick.

I am not so sick by everyone going to 12 teams and having a Conference Championship Game. What is sickening is the super conference. If the PAC stops at 12, Big 10 adds one more, and Big 12 can rebuild, I would feel better about it.

Big 10 is at 12 now. They don't need anymore.

Yeah, bad wording. Big 10 adds their 1.

The Jayhawks may also have another suitor: the Big East. Washington Examiner sports reporter Jim Williams posted a Twitter update saying Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State "are starting talks with The Big East." The league would have a 12 teams in football and 20 in basketball.
20 teams in basketball? This was already ridiculous. Why don't we just put everyone into one big conference while we're at it.

That's a good post. One thing the Mtn Network needs to stop is giving out airtime equally. Airtime needs to be based on the number of people that will watch the airtime. If that means 90% of the time is spent on BYU, Utah, TCU and Boise then that's the way it has to be. The days of being nice about this are over. This is now about survival.

I don't follow UteFan so thanks for pointing this one out. That is an excellent read and I agree with his points. I especially liked a few of his comments...

We have four consistent Top 25 teams and 5 BCS bowl appearances (with a 4-1 record). Boise is the latest darling (again), we were there in 2008, TCU is nationally respected and BYU... well, they're a strong program, too, (though it goes against every fiber in my being to make that utterance.)

                        • hmm. something's definitely up. The coaches have all the athletes over at their house. They never (ever) do that in the off-season.

Maybe the University of Oklahoma Sooners are going to switch conferences!

or maybe they're plotting how to sabotage the Utes' bid to join the conference. After all, in addition to being a storied basketball powerhouse, Utah has a pretty strong gymnastics team, too.

Or maybe they're just having a barbeque. People in The South love to barbeque.
