If Nebraska stays put then there is no way TCU makes it into the Big 12. They are the ones with their panties in a twist over the Texas-centric nature of the conference. If Nebraska goes, like they most likely will, TCU will probably be the first choice to fill a spot in the conference followed by BYU.

I think Nebraska and A&M leaving guarantees BYU a slot. If only Nebraska/Colorado leave I'm still worried about BYU being left out.Originally posted by Viking View PostIf Nebraska goes, which will happen, there are already two open slots.

I think aTm's move to the SEC forces Texas's hand to move to the Pac 10. The Big 12 cannot continue without all three of the power players: Texas, Oklahoma and aTm. Texas would be forced to risk it with the Pac 10 and it maybe thinks that California will open up big time with the penalties imposed on USC.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostI'm starting to think either Chip is being used by Texas and knows it or someone at Texas is using him without Chip knowing. Texas is trying to negotiate deal by putting out information about moving to the PAC-10. I don't think Texas is going to move anywhere. This is just a bunch of posturing to somehow get more money.
The best scenario for BYU at this point is that A&M moves to the SEC and Nebraska goes to the Big 10. BYU and TCU then take those two open spots. I think Utah is gone to the PAC-10.
Even Nebraska is expendable for Texas, Oklahoma and aTm. Nebraska was largely irrelevant in the national title picture between 2002 and 2008 and the only thing that happened during that time was Oklahoma playing for three national titles and Texas playing for one.
If cooler heads prevail and the Big 12 remains intact sans CU, then there's a spot for BYU in the Big 12 and a spot for Utah in the Pac 10 (the Pac 10 didn't go to all of this trouble just to grab CU which is essentially an above average MWC program right now).Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

They can't have a conference championship at only 10. If the Big 12 survives the defections, they will definitely reload with how many it takes to get back to 12.Originally posted by cowboy View PostIs BYU really the front runner to go to the Big 12, or are we all just hoping?
