I agree. BYU is probably a shoe-in to go to the Big 12 if it survives. I worry about scenario B as it probably means the death of CFB as we know it and that there will be a ton of congressional involvement as well over anti-trust issues.

Tech then, like now, always had pull in the legislature. Baylor had Ann Richards. Now Baylor doesn't have the political pull, it's done. The teams that weren't included were toast and that's essentially what's happened to the teams from the old SWC that were left behind, although TCU appears to have made the best of it.

aTm leaving for the SEC as opposed to sticking with Texas isn't the same thing as being left behind. The Aggie proponents in the state government would be fine with the move. I also don't see the Longhorn proponents particularly blocking the move.

From an athletic and money standpoint, it's a shrewd move by aTm. I imagine that there are definitely recruits in Texas that would be enamored with playing in the SEC as opposed to the Super-duper 16. It gives aTm a possible recruiting edge against Texas.

As usual, the SEC is playing its cards right. They nailed expansion back in the early 90s and they're going after one of the two big programs in Texas that they know they have a significantly better shot at landing between the two. IMO, the SEC can lift aTm's boat to a point where it could begin to get on more equal footing with Texas. Meanwhile, the SEC expands it's footprint into Texas. It's not out of the question that aTm could again become an equal program with Texas, it was superior program back in the 90s.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Good thoughts CMBF. I can easily recall when the RC Slocum own the state.

Texas and aTm may be viewing this as an opportunity to diminish TT as someone who recruits against them in the state(esp for A&M's perspective). So I am going out on a limb to say that I think Utah has a 80% chance to get to the Pac-10.

Scenario A: Texas sits pat in the Big 12 and Utah joins as the 12th team

                      or

Scenario B: Texas, A&M, OU, OSU and Utah round out the Pac-16.

Of the two I think scenario A is the most likely. I think that Tech is the odd team out. If the Pc-10 is interested in increasing TV markets, are you better taking Utah and gaining the Utah market or taking TT who does not bring any of the Texas market that UT and A&M already saturate?
Well that is not true, they are meeting together in the morning then meeting with Tech and others in the afternoon. The Pac-16 is a go, no matter how bad Ute fans want it not to happen. It is going to happen, the dominos will fall, SU will look like a complete jack ass once again and so will all of those shit talking Ute fans.

Utah, BYU, TCU and Boise will be left scrambling for the Big 12s scraps, I doubt they get them, the Big 10 will then invite Rutgers, Syracuse and Pitt. The remaining BIg East teams will take Kansas, K-state, Iowa State and Baylor. The MWC will not change.

Unfortunately this is how I see it falling out. At this point one can only hope that Kansas and KSU would join the MWC but everything else I fear is going to happen just as you describe.

It isn't going to look good. BYU and Utah's only hope is that the Pac-16 is the only league that goes to 16 teams. If there ends up being 4 that do, count on college football in the state of Utah as being completely irrelevant.
