  • Question for some of you guys in the know. If only NU and CU end up leaving, they'll each have to pay $10 million to the Big XII right? Would CU have made the move to the PAC-10 if they thought there was a legit chance the Big XII would remain solvent? I'm wondering if their jumping gives us a clue as to their certainty of the Big XII dissolving? Or is $10 million just chump change in all of this?

    • Interesting conversation with Chip Brown on the radio.

It sounds like a big show down between Texas and A&M.

        No honor among thieves.

Apart from the cultural mismatch and logistical nightmare, the prospects that the Big Four in California and these guys could have a meeting of the minds is not great, in my opinion.

        • i suppose a question is how much sway does gene stallings have with the aTm board, and is it enough to convince them that aTm is important and strong enough of a brand without Texas.

Yeah, and turn its back on that rivalry.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

This may end with Texas and A&M parting ways. It seems that the SEC is willing to give A&M whatever they ask for.

                  • The 4 texas teams won't split up. Baylor has a lot of power.

Ironically, Baylor kept BYU out of the Big 12 in the 1990s and it will bring BYU into the league to preserve itself.

I've found these reportedly sacrosanct in-state tie ups/rivalries to be interesting. For example, KU/KSU, UT/aTm/TT?, OU/OKState. Whereas others are more open in their marriage arrangements, like Iowa/ISU, Colorado/CSU, Florida/FSU. Some of the former may face some difficult choices in the days to come.

Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech appear to be in lock step to the Pac-10 but will wait til next week to announce anything.

Which sounds like worst case scenario for BYU and good for Utah.

Baylor has about as much power as BYU and Utah in this. They are on the outside looking in hoping this doesn't become a bunch of 16 team conferences.
