Is it just me or has BYU been getting its ass kicked in recruiting this year? I know last year was the anomoly given the level of LDS talent out there and the fact Scout's #1 QB prospect and his family were the most effective recruiters we've had in a long time, but this year seems particularly bad at a glance. Granted, I haven't followed as closely this year but my quick-and-lazy synopsis says we've basically verballed the entire Bingham and Timpview DLines and pulled in the brother of a former Olineman from out of state. (Edit: I forgot about Pulispher and Lene). Still...kind of weak sauce. I guess Matthews is an old fashioned Utah/BYU battle and Langi is an out-of-state lean. Anything else here to be excited about for 2011?

Kinda feels that way to me too, but I don't subscribe to TBS anymore so I don't get the good vibes and that may be it. I was thinking though, without Heaps and his efforts how good would last year have beenOriginally posted by HBCoug View PostIs it just me or has BYU been getting its ass kicked in recruiting this year? I hope Bronco still has a fire within to compete and win and his attitude concerning the Utah/BYU golf event isn't starting to take over. I don't mind him saying football is the number 5 priority as long as he is just saying it for the "mullah's" to have something to feel great about.Last edited by byu71; 06-29-2010, 09:16 AM.

You mean the 2-star Finau?Originally posted by HBCoug View PostBy all the schools who are signing the kids who had BYU interest who had other big boy offers. Finau, Tupou, etc, etc. Didn't have any one school in mind.

Stars are pointless. Who do these kids have offers from iss what is relevant. I think HBcoug might be thinking this because BYU hasn't gotten a commit from someone that has an offer from a legit school.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostYou mean the 2-star Finau?"Take it to the Bank"

Most kids that commit to BYU do not get offers from other schools because they know if BYU has offered, that is where the kid will go. Unless of course he has character or schooling issues.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostStars are pointless. Who do these kids have offers from iss what is relevant. Yeah I know how it can seem like it's lazy recruiting with all the signees from Bingham. But I have seen Bingham play alot, and I think those kids are all legit, especially Tausinga. And I still have hopes that we can get Langi, and I like where we are with Matthews."Not at the table Carlos"

Yep. I'm talking about kids who have other good options. I know there was excitement over Pulsipher's verbal, but Scout lists BYU, Buffalo, NMSU, and Yale as his options. Maybe that list would've expanded had he not verballed when BYU offered, maybe it doesn't include all of his real options, but of that list I sure as hell hope he'd pick BYU. I don't see a single BCS offer among our 12 commits. I don't even see a Utah offer (although technically I guess they are now BCS) among the 12. One kid had Air Force and another had CSU among his offers.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostStars are pointless. Who do these kids have offers from iss what is relevant. Like I said, it was just a random musing on a lazy Tuesday. I think BYU is a much better program and school than to land this many "diamonds in the rough."

Yes, I saw Bingham "play" Euless Trinity.Originally posted by Bengal Cougar View PostYeah I know how it can seem like it's lazy recruiting with all the signees from Bingham. There is some talent at Bingham by Utah standards. IMHO, BYU needs to do more Texas recruiting like Utah has done recently. Compare the 2010 rosters:

You won't get an arguement from me, I would like to see us go into Texas more for recruiting. There are alot of good religious kids in Texas who like what BYU has to offer.Originally posted by Ted Nugent View PostYes, I saw Bingham "play" Euless Trinity.

An opinion on the future of BYU recruiting...
BYU’s New Landscape
If the status-quo remains, it’s going to get a lot harder for the Cougars. You can expect the “U” to compete much more effectively for the in-state LDS athlete that BYU has traditionally had the market on.
Utah will no doubt sell its strong LDS Institute of Religion to these recruits. The Ute programs will pitch them on the idea that they can have a “BYU-type” experience, live near or at home and play in the PAC-10."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

It looks like BYU is doing pretty good on getting the top 2011 Utah prospects so far. Also, it seems that BYU may not have the recruiting edge it use to over Utah with Harvey Langi (if he stays in state):
If Holmoe comes through on those "great opportunities for BYU" then Langi will most likely be in the bag.“Utah going to the Pac-10 just blows my mind. That’s crazy. That’s unreal. That makes the decision for me even harder, because it puts Utah higher up, no question. Now they are up there with the big boys I’ve been visiting, schools like USC, UCLA, Stanford and Washington,” [Langi] said.
A moment later, he added: “But don’t get me wrong -- I still have a lot of respect for BYU.”"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
