  • @InsideUSC: Lane Kiffin accused me in August of having a vendetta against him. But I never pulled him off a bus and fired him #USC

@LindseyThiry: #USC pulled the trigger on firing Kiffin. Source told me after WSU loss that a loss to BC, USU, or an embarrassment at ASU would do it.

    Haden definitely had a view...

@LindseyThiry: #USC athletic director Pat Haden with a front row view of the 62-41 game right now. http://t.co/rHHZsjVmf7

Results on the field, vibes from current players, etc.

      • Haven't they started losing more recruiting battles with UCLA?

I think that would do it.

        • For some reason Kiff is actually a good recruiter.

The real wizard behind all of the recruiting is Orgeron. He will be retained regardless of whomever is hired.

I don't think Peterson will be offered, but if he is it would be silly to say no. Might be his last chance at cashing in on this level.

            • I don't know why Peterson would take the USC job if offered. He's comfortable where he is and his job is safe. The pressure to produce at USC is ridiculously high compared to other jobs that Peterson has already turned down.

              • First off, I don't know who Chris Peterson is. Chris Petersen, the head coach of Boise, is a good candidate though. The biggest reasons he would take the gig include:

                1) Money. To leave Boise, his base salary would likely be substantially higher than the $2 mil he'd earn before incentives.
                2) Desire to win. To be a head coach at that level, you've got to have a bit of an ego. The thought that you could compete at the highest level and have the resources to win year in year out has to be appealing. How many times has an undefeated Boise been left out of a BCS game, let alone a National Title game?
                3) Living in LA > Living in Boise.

                • Typical CB. Some talk their of Bronco going to USC as HC or DC. Now if over the past years at BYU he hasn't shown his real personna then maybe, but if he has a big time job won't work for him.

Besides with names like Peterson (the guy Sizzle doesn't know) or Jack Del Rio out there, I doubt Bronco would be in serious consideration.

                  • When Haden spoke to the team about Kiffin’s dismissal, sources said there were broad smiles throughout the team.
“It was like a breath of fresh air,” said one player who asked not to be identified.

                      • When I was a kid, Pat Haden was on the cover of Boy's Life. He was in a Ram's uniform and they talked about him being a left-handed QB. As a lefty myself, and as someone with no previous affiliations with an NFL team, the Rams became my favorite team.

Why would that be? Bronco closes practices and it isn't a big deal.

                          • What was his reasoning for closing practices to the media?

I really don't think Haden was left-handed. Now I'm starting to wonder what else Boy's Life got wrong.

It isn't a big deal for BYU because there isn't a huge demand to get into the practices. Also, there is really no media market in Provo and any beat writers wouldnt dare write anything scathing about the coach or the school.

SC has always had an open practice policy...family, fans, celebs, anyone could attend (arguably a problem because this gave guys like Lake access to Bush). Most importantly, local and national media could attend and write stories for big newspapers like USA Today, LA Times, and OC Register and get film for shows like SportsCenter, not to mention local news broadcasts in the second largest media market in the country. Once Kiffin closed the practices to the media, the media didnt have as much material to write about, which made them angry, so instead they started writing negative things about Kiffin. Generally speaking, having constant negativity in the press is detrimental to your job security. So as I said, closing practices was a huge nail in his coffin.
