  • Fight On for old SC, Fight On to Victory!

Rather than continuing to litter the site with SC stuff, might as well start an SC thread and keep it all in the family.

Since there is always something to talk about, figured I might as well jump right in with the February Battle and HS recruiting.

With Kiff jumping ship at 10essee, the result was havoc....several de-cos in Knoxville that decided to trip West before committing anywhere.

This weekend saw the first wave of de-cos, as well as other in-state recruits.

Scheduled to be on campus this past weekend (1/22):

    LB Josh Shirley
    WR Markeith Ambles
    OL Giovanni DiPolao

The biggest news today is that Markeith Ambles (5-star WR from Georgia) has officially committed to the Trojans. I am not exactly sure why SC needs so many WRs in this class, esp having already received commitments from Top 10 Kyle Prater and Robert Woods. This is turning out to be a pretty sick class.

    http://footballnetwork.wordpress.com...mitted-to-usc/

Ambles comes with alleged baggage, so not sure how I feel about this signing. From a pure talent perspective, he should be a nice contributor.

Christian Jones re-scheduled for this coming weekend, which is going to be another big one for the Trojans. More importantly, he cancelled his Miami visit, so that is good. SC is his last official visit before signing day. I like SC's chances

Dillon Baxter (5-star Back from San Diego) is allegedly supposed to enroll this Wednesday after recently confirming his SC commit on the local news. This is big news and keeps the door open for Seantrel Henderson....Baxter's good buddy from the AAA game. I still think Seantrel is the Luckeyes' to lose, but stranger things have happened. Kiff is actually on a recruiting swing back East right now, including an in-home at Seantrel's house. Hopefully he brought along Ed O to seal the deal.

Owamagbe Odighizuwa has allegedly cut his list down to 4 schools, with SC and the Ducks being in the mix. Personally, I think this guy is Oregon's to lose. He would be a really nice get, regardless of where he lands.

Schedule to be on campus THIS weekend (1/29)

    DT Chaz Green (****)
    OT Arie Kouandijo (****)
    DT Michael Thornton (****)
    S Demar Dorsey (****)
    S Dietrich Riley (****)
    OLB Christian Jones (*****)
    TE Christian Thomas (****)
    CB Nickell Robey (****)
S Latwan Anderson (*****)...this one is odd because he had already given a verbal to West Virginia. I have no idea what is causing the waver.
JC OL John Cullen (unofficial visit)

Wow. Freaking huge weekend at HH for this recruiting class. I expect a lot of Kabooms.

    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

That class is already unreal and could be even better. Yikes, with this class and Oregon potentially losing Matangi Masoli, SC should be back on top in no time.

Here's an interesting article from Scout.com about how every five-star recruits in the class of 2006 fared:

      http://cfn.scout.com/2/940370.html

In a nutshell, only 18 of the 55 made an impact; 10 are still iffy; and half were busts. Rankings, shmankings.

Just trying to help the traffic. If it turns into a thread of you talking to yourself, we might have to move it to CougarGuard.

I don't know why any kid would want to play for Kiffin.

Utah should send coaches to SC during these visits since the ones that SC doesnt want will end up there.

That which is worth doing is worth doing for money.

What is the local word on Seantrel? Are the Luckeyes going to wrap that kid up or is he coming out to HH? I have read some comments that Minnesota might swoop in and keep him in state, but that just seems completely unrealistic. Coincidentally, SC has a home and home with Minnesota starting this next season.

PS Against my better judgment, I am ready to buy into the myth of Pryor. I figure that after a couple of years starting, he is now ready to run roughshod through the Big 1T1en.

I'll let you know. I get the emails about recruits but I have just deleted them this past few weeks. I haven't had time to read much.. We could use him on the OL...

An interesting breakdown for California recruiting this year. This is per Scout. California's Top 25 recruits:

Class of 2010 California Final State Rankings
Rank Name Pos Ht/Wt School Verbal

10 Joshua Shaw CB 6-1/180/4.50 Palmdale Florida
                          11 Sean Parker S 5-10/188 Nathaniel Narbonne
12 Tony Jefferson OLB 6-0/210/4.60 Eastlake Oklahoma
13 Cassius Marsh DT 6-4/270/4.90 Oaks Christian LSU

16 Randall Telfer TE 6-4/223/4.68 Rancho Cucamonga USC
17 Josh Shirley OLB 6-2/220/4.55 Henry J. Kaiser
18 Cecil Whiteside MLB 6-3/205 Newport Harbor California
19 Erik Kohler OG 6-5/285/4.90 Oaks Christian Washington
20 Paul Richardson WR 6-1/175/4.56 Junipero Serra UCLA
21 Kevin Smith WR 6-1/200/4.45 Centennial Washington
                          22 Dietrich Riley S 6-1/195/4.50 St. Francis
23 Anthony Wilkerson RB 6-0/218/4.50 Tustin Stanford
24 Anthony Jefferson CB 6-2/180/4.50 Cathedral
25 Hayes Pullard MLB 6-2/220/4.60 Crenshaw Senior

Oklahoma and Florida doing some serious damage in California. Florida nabbing 2 Top 10 players and Oklahoma having a really nice showing, as well.

With several still uncommitted, that OU or FLA list could continue to grow.

Sark does a nice job, landing 2 of the Top 25.

Looks like for the most part, California kids like to stay local. Not a surprise, as I would expect the same from Texas and Florida kids.

I am surprised that Texas seems to get little play in California. The Longhorns have a very recognizable brand.
