Here is the solution, acknowledge that it isn't to determine the best team and enjoy the playoffs.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostWell it's obviously a flawed tradition in that it leads some to think that the winner is the best team in MLB, right? If baseball didn't have a World Series since 1903 and instead had been deciding the champion for that time using the 162 game regular season, I wouldn't be an advocate for starting a playoff. There is no contradiction between my thoughts on college football and MLB.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostOh my. So it's a great thing and they should keep doing it. But if they weren't already doing it, they shouldn't do it. Makes perfect sense!Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIf baseball didn't have a World Series since 1903 and instead had been deciding the champion for that time using the 162 game regular season, I wouldn't be an advocate for starting a playoff. Funk, yes the team that was best on paper in the regular season doesn't always win the playoffs. Otherwise, there would be no point to having playoffs. But that is precisely what contributes to the drama and the spectacle and why they are so damned exciting. In the playoffs you have the best teams (including some favorites and some underdogs) and you have HUGE stakes. In other words, everything that makes sports so much fun to watch in the first place. If you don't like playoffs, I can't imagine why you would enjoy sports in the first place. Then again, maybe you don't.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostHere is the solution, acknowledge that it isn't to determine the best team and enjoy the playoffs."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Right, The World Series is broken. Gotcha!Originally posted by mpfunk View PostHere is the solution, acknowledge that it isn't to determine the best team and enjoy the playoffs.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

I'm talking to some people here on how to send the Royals players a bunch of gems so that the Giants can win the WS.

I'm proud my boy flew to Helsinki for the start of the WS just so he could do this. Talk about taking one for the team.Originally posted by filsdepac View Posthttp://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2014/...o-become-world

Actually, the playoffs (as opposed to the best regular season team from both leagues facing off in the World Series) isn't that old. The League Championship Series only goes back to 1969 and the Divisional Series and Wild Card teams only go back to 1994. That's not all that old considering the long history of baseball.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostThe playoffs are exciting.
