Neither do I. If you take Jimmer, you're taking him to play PG and just have to live with the fact that he's going to play it more as a scorer than distributor. Not only does he not have the size to play the 2, but all his ability to score is with the ball. If you put him in a traditional Jazz 2-guard role where he has to move off-ball, use sceens and spot up, I think he'd be lost. Of course he's a talented enough shooter that maybe he could adjust to shooting in different ways than he does now, but right now all his talent to shoot it is off the bounce and that doesn't really work as a Jazz 2..So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I probably didn't phrase that right, but he hasn't played a big enough sample of games for me to feel like you really know the type of player he is. I guess Duke's early season schedule was better than I thought having played 5 teams that made the tourney in Irvings 9 games (Princeton, Marquette, Kansas St., Michigan St. and Butler) but with him missing so much of the ACC season, I'm not sure that he is a guy who is going to keep playing at an unreal pace of 53% from the field, 90% from the line and 49% from the 3. If I felt comfortable that he would, you'd bet I take him #1 overall.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI'm not sure I get that comment. IMO, he has proven about as much as he possibly could have in his limited time.
I should have phrased it "I'm not sure the sample size of games Kyrie Irving has played is enough for me to warrant him going to the top of my draft board."

I agree with this. If Jimmer were to come to the Jazz with their 2nd pick, I would imagine it would have to be as a guy off the bench who can provide a spark scoring the ball leading the 2nd unit. If you let him play that role, I think he can be a role player in the NBA, potentially a starter on a team that really likes to push it. Maybe he can grow into a more traditional point. IMO it won't be because he won't work hard enough at it.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNeither do I. I think he's done quite well spotting up and coming off screens this year; that just isn't what he's asked to do very often. I don't see any reason why he couldn't be a good spot-up shooter if that's what his team needs.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNeither do I. I used to worry about whether he'd could adjust to catch and shoot off of screens. That's all JJ Reddick did in college and he had quite an adjustment. But I no longer have that concern with Jimmer. He can shoot from anywhere off the dribble or off the catch and can get the shot off quickly.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostNot only does he not have the size to play the 2, but all his ability to score is with the ball. Still, he's got to be a point guard. Maybe he can be a distributor, but he hasn't necessarily shown that yet. He'll definitely have to be much more of one to get any time in the NBA. Otherwise, his leash will be way too short and on most teams he won't get much of a chance to play lots of minutes.

I agree. It's scary to draft a guy that high when you only have a sample size of 9 games. If he does that over an entire season or even 20 games of good competition, he's the #1 overall, IMO. It will be interesting to see what he does for the rest of the dance.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostI probably didn't phrase that right, but he hasn't played a big enough sample of games for me to feel like you really know the type of player he is.I'm like LeBron James.

IMO, Irving is the clear cut #1 pick in this draft unless someone like Jones or Kanter kills it in their individual team workouts. If Irving had been able to come right out of high school he would have been a top 5 pick, and even though he hasn't played much in college the little bit that he did was enough for me.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI agree. Has Irving said if he's coming out? I like Irving a lot. I follow Gordon Hayward on twitter so I do. He is pulling for the 5 seeds to win in the tourney so he can get a discount at Subway.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostOh.. the Utah Jazz are playing a basketball game tonight.. who knew?
I think I might retire as a Jazz fan and become a fan of wherever Jimmer goes.Get confident, stupid
