  • Well, I think we have a lot more games like this in store.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

    • I haven't followed draft sites this year given our lack of pick. I just gave them a run through and I guess there's no reason to get excited about this NJ pick.

      • After all that I honestly forgot the Jazz played tonight. Was tonight's result a result of lack of talent, hustle or both? Did they keep it close evwn for a while? Also forgot they were in Dallas. An even bigger 'take that Deron' by not letting him play in front of family and friends. A nice coincidence with the trade deadline I guess.

IMO, depth and poor wing play (which the two go hand in hand).

The game was tied at 61 in the 3rd quarter when I switched to watch the end of the BYU game fully. By the time I turned it back they were down 12.

The Jazz got good play from Al and AK, and had a decent night from Sap. CJ had 16 off the bench, but he, Raja and Gordo combined for a total 4-22 from the floor. CJ's only saving grace was he was 9-10 from the line. Elson and Fes also gave the Jazz absolutely nothing as bigs.

Dallas, on the other hand, had Marion, Terry, Berrea and Haywood all go for 10+ off the bench.

Also in the first half, the Jazz played well defensively, getting deflections, and moved the ball well on the offensive end. The second half the offense bogged down a lot, and the guys tried to go one on one. The one thing that I am excited for about Harris is he is a guy who likes to get to the lane and dish. I think AK and Al are going to get a lot of easy buckets because of that.

          • Tied in the second half is a feat unto itself. Yeah Devin does like to drive and dish so hopefully they get 5 practices between now and April so he can learn the offense doesn't work that way in Utah.

            • If anyone has good lakers tickets to sell, I would be interested in buying them. I assume nobody will go to jazz games anymore so the tickets should be easier to purchase.

              • Yeah, I bought some 5th row Nuggets-Jazz tickets from a friend a few weeks back. I thought about asking for a refund tonight.

                • ESPN reporting that Williams first learned of trade by seeing it on their ticker.

Personally I don't blame KOC for trading DWill. He wasn't going to stay. Better to move him when they could get some potential and picks.

                  • Utah is never going to win a championship anyway. I think all they can do anymore is just try and put an entertaining team out of the floor and hope to make the playoffs and maybe win a round of two.

But then you have the Cavs who were willing to take on a ton of salary just to get another lottery pick. I think right now, assuming the top college freshmen/sophomores come out, this year's draft looks a lot like last year's: Kyrie Irving is a can't miss PG prospect, Peery Jones = Favors, and then you've got a bunch of guys who have good ability but will take a few years to develop and/or need to find the right system. Kanter is a question mark because he isn't playing right now but scouts were sure certain of him before the season.

I think right now Derrick Williams is the best NBA prospect. But you're right this draft is not great at all.

                        • My guess is next years draft is stacked. I'd bet that HS kids are allowed to come straight to the NBA in the next CBA, so you'll have essentially two years worth of classes coming into the league.

I thought I read (heard?) that Stern was pretty set on keeping that rule, if not upping it to two-years after college? I suppose anything is fair game when you're trying to negotiate a new CBA, but for some reason I had it in my mind that the straight out of HS rule was one of his babies.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I had read somewhere that this was a big push from the players end, and that while it is a baby of Stern, it is something that they want to add back in. Teams could draft players and have them play in the D-League, but they may not be able to play in the NBA until they are 19 I think. Maybe it was more of an idea and less of something that was actually on the table, but I know I heard/read that somewhere.

I read something the other day that said the players absolutely loathe this rule and it would likely be one where the league would have to concede to get anywhere in negotiations. There was also mention of some intermediate agreement where maybe players could get drafted straight out but would have to spend a year or two in the D before being NBA eligible.
