I just can't figure out what happened to him though. He had a two year run that was extremely impressive but he seems to not care at all on defense anymore and is only interested in shooting on offense. Maybe it had more to do with the dearth of talent in NJ. I sure hope so. It's not like the Jazz roster is full of All-Stars though."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

I heard that it was the Park City cop that detained Torry early in his career.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSo did Deron really learn about this trade via ESPN and not the Jazz? Ouch. He averaged 21 and 7 his first full year in NJ.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostI'm probably on A. I think a lot are acting like Harris is chopped liver, not a guy averaging 15/8 who, when he wants to be, is probably among the two best defensive points in the NBA.
I feel like I haven't watched him, other than games against Utah, for the past 3 years. So I was surprised when you said that about his defense. If he's good on defense than that is a big plus.

Raja on Deron Williams:
"I thought he did the best job he could under the circumstances this year, this was an interesting year. Nobody is privey to what we see in the locker room and in the organization. I thought he did his best trying to put us in a position to win, to speak up when things weren't going the way things should. Sometimes that rubs people the wrong way and you become a villian or a scapegoat."

Some thoughts on the trade:
1. Williams began throwing his coach under the bus last season. This season he did it more frequently and effectively created disunion amongst the players and that is why Sloan said I'm too old for this sh** and retired. I don't blame him, he earned that right. Also, The trade sends a clear message to the players that they backed the wrong horse and it effectively reminds them they are all movable assets.
2. Williams was blind-sided by the deal and is upset because, above all else, he must've felt he was in control of his destiny. While the trade, initially, must be difficult to stomach, he should thank his lucky stars that the Jazz looked after their own best interests and sent him to a situation where he can avoid being blamed for the ousting a hall of fame coach and potentially killing an NBA franchise with a real legacy ... not to mention, now, truly being able to look after his own best interests with impunity. I'm certain his agent signed off on this without even blinking.
3. Anyone who believes the Jazz are now the Timberwolves, Raptors or the grizzlies is a moron. Teams like that don't make moves like this.
4. It's a good trade for the Jazz and too risky a trade for New Jersey IMO. Of course, time will only tell, but the Jazz received quality talent along with high first round draft picks in return for a dowdy superstar. It's better the Jazz woke up now and realized they needed to rebuild, instead of holding out hope for a future that just wasn't going to materialize with the current crop of players.
Side bar: why didn't Williams garner more playing time and praise from coaches on the olympic squad? Maybe we now know why‽
5. All of this began with a massive basketball operations mistake, on the part of KOC, in not locking up Wes Mathews when he had the chance. It's a terrible way to have to atone for stupidity, but oh well, you live and you learn.

It has changed the world. The clothes we are both wearing were probably designed on an iPad. Nothing is the same anymore.Originally posted by tooblue View PostHow's that ipad treating you? Well, the world is going to change over time regardless. I suppose we can attribute it to the iPad. why not?Originally posted by tooblue View PostTime will tell won't it hombre.
The "shear" nature of things dictates that all things must change.
For example, the Jazz, who are now the Timberwolves, the Raptors, and the Grizzlies.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The bad is that Williams gave up on doing the heavy lifting himself, an unavoidable call that came via both his personal pain and his star status, and began pointing fingers in every direction. That mistake blew a hole in the bottom of the Jazz’s boat, evidenced by his attitude, his play, and his team’s slipping under the waves and into the deep over the past two months.
A title wasn’t coming — When will it ever come? — and Williams, at least in part, blamed Jerry Sloan, but, even worse, he bailed out. When Sloan perceived that management backed the player instead of the coach, he called the bluff and walked.

Does this move change management's tune on what took place 2 weeks ago? I doubt it, although I think Deron's general demeanor and obvious disdain for "small markets" gave the Jazz the chance to stick it to him while looking to the future.Originally posted by tooblue View Post"Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault
