Guess it's tought to know what to believe.
Likely scenario from what I've gathered.

    1) Sloan has been struggling thinking he isn't reaching the team for a while.
    2) After the game last night, particularly with issues with D-Will, Sloan decides he is done. After the game, KOC, Sloan and staff meet, Sloan lets them know that he is out, KOC is not happy about trying ANYTHING to keep Sloan around.
    3) Agreement is made that they'll sleep on it, with everybody knowing that Sloan is done.
    4) KOC and the Millers try anything they can all day to get Sloan to change his mind. Sloan's mind is made up because it has been building all season long, and this was the tipping point.

As I'm working through my emotions right now, I am fighting the fact that I've felt like Sloan's time had likely passed but trying to reconcile it with the fact that I felt like Sloan deserved more. And by more, I mean more respect/effort from the players this season. Something has just been off. And Jerry probably isn't blameless in this. He hasn't seemed the same this year. He's looked tired. I don't know how that's effected his performance if at all. Maybe it has, maybe it hasn't. About the only thing I'm sure of is that I'll appreciate and miss seeing Sloan on the sidelines.

But I also assume Jerry said he wouldn't stick around if he wasn't prepared to give it his all and that last night was the tipping point that made the negatives outweigh the enjoyment he got out of the job.
        That sounds spot on.

Jerry could have finished the year and had parades thrown in his honor. But did anyone ever think that that's what Sloan would have done or wanted? It was this, or quietly resigning after the season was over with no time for a retirement tour around the league.

Listening to Greg right now, and it's hard to tell how much is window dressing, but it genuinely sounds like this wasn't because of Deron.

From listening to the whole thing, it doesn't sound like Jerry's conflict with Deron was any bigger or different than many players he's dealt with. Karl, Chris Morris, Ostertag, etc. etc. etc. The big difference, at least as far as I can tell, is that Jerry feels too old and tired at this point to keep fighting.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Sloan is leaving on his own terms. Jazz wanted him to stay. Some players and many fans did not.
so no event happened that made him leave in the middle of the season? his own terms were to leave right now? if you think that's true, you're crazy. just because the jazz front office issues a press release that says they want him to stay doesn't reflect what really happened.

Did some media sources talk about a confrontation with AK last night? I thought I had seen that and am left wondering why more people aren't trying to approach that angle. AK and Jerry have had more issues than any other Jazz player, and if they were heated again last night and AK was in the closed door meeting for a time it makes me wonder what that might have been about.

Speaking of AK, is there any doubt that his sci-fi books are packed up, that he has committed only playing Wow until 3 am, and that his travel agent has been put on notice to not book a vacation until at least 2 weeks after the season ends?

I'm happy to review your evidence to counter the statements by everyone involved. Obviously something happened to make him pull the trigger. But nobody forced Sloan out. It was 100% his decision. He knew he wasn't getting the job done. I commend him.

Ric Bucher at ESPN reporting that one issue last night from Deron not running the plays (we've seen that reported before). Sloan wanted to suspend DWill. KOC gave push back. Sloan said he was done.

Not out of the realm of possibility.

I don't think if you'd asked Jerry even 2 days ago he'd have thought this was a reasonable way to leave the Jazz or a way he'd have ever seen his own end. As you suggested, he's not one for fanfare but he certainly didn't envision leaving midseason under any scenario. We can't pretend this was an ending he would have wished for or that he was completely in control of either. Sure they asked him to stay but the die was cast and it was not the way Jerry wanted to go out.

Reports were that he left the locker room through the coaches office or something. No reports that I heard that he was involved in any confrontation.

An NBA team has 100 nights a year on the road, Jerry Sloan and Phil Johnson ate lunch and dinner together for about 195 of 200 those meals

The success of the Jazz in the future is 100% contingent on hiring Jim Boylen right now. You have to act fast because a lot of people are going to be after him right now. Salary should be at least what he is currently making with the Utes.

I thought I just heard Jerry say he was thinking about this for several days.

The suspend Deron scenario sounds plausible. But even if true, it doesn't speak poorly of the Jazz organization for not wanting to suspend Deron. It was Jerry's decision to go. He could have waited. He didn't. I don't have a problem with it. And I don't understand why people won't accept that.
