Interesting. Depressing. True. Only the Jazz could be so lucky. Humprhries is better than Millsap right now (didn't think I'd ever say that!) and Morrow is light years ahead of Bell. AK is probably a more effective player than Outlaw - although the comparison is fair - and the way Al has been playing since the beginning of Feb, he's probably been better than Lopez - but again, definitely a fair comparison.

5 players didn't practice this morning and 4 are out for tomorrow night's game in Toronto (D-league All Stars: Elson, Fesenko, Price, AK). Milsap is a game time decision and of course Memo is European.

8 players in uniform. Imagine a starting line up of Devin Harris, Al Jefferson, Raja Bell, Derrick Favors, and Gordon Hayward. Now imagine the only bench players are Earl Watson, CJ Miles, and Jeremy Evans.

Now put your head in the toilet and flush.

I sure hope they NBA comes out with a new CBA soon so that college freshmen aren't discouraged from entering the draft.

The good news? The Jazz can do themselves a favor by losing to Toronto tomorrow night. And further establish themselves as the 12th overall pick.

Derrick Favors hasn't played 30+ minutes in any game this year. Dwight Howard averaged 32 mpg his rookie season, right out of high school. Howard's p36 numbers his rookie season were 13.2 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 1.7 bpg and he shot 52% from the field. Favors' p36 numbers are 12.2 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 1.4 bpg and 52% FG%.

Taking just the games were Favors plays at least 24 mpg he has averaged 12 and 8 in those games in 26 minutes on average. Those project out to p36 averages of 16.6 ppg and 11.1 rpg. So I guess that means in games where he plays well he stays in longer and then his numbers look better...imagine that.

But seeing him since the trade I think he's farther along than I was expecting. It's absurd that he's only gone over 20 minutes in a Jazz uni once in his first five games.

On the brights side, with Elson, Fess and possibly Millsap out, He should get well over 20 minutes tomorrow. I'd like to see him be a little more aggressive. Especially converting dunks close to the hoop.

That was the biggest issue during his one year in college. It seemed he passed up way too many opportunities to dunk on heads given his size, build, and athletic ability.

He needs to spend a week inside Griffin or Howard's head.
He should be working on explosive dunks in practice every day. I believe it is a learned skill.

True, though Al is about a 2 and Favors is about an 8 on a 1-10 scale of big-man athleticism (1 being Zydrunas Ilgauskas and 10 being Blake Griffin). So it's a little more understandable from Al. I agree with Jacob, though. Dunking in traffic is a learned skill.

And I think it'd be fair to say that Jefferson has been much more inclined to really go after the rim the past two months than he was early in the season. I can't speak to how he played in Minnesota but there has been some improvement in that regard during his short time in Utah.

This is true and probably his biggest obstacle at this point to more playing time besides his overall conditioning. It doesn't help that rookies don't get the benefit of the doubt on fouls but body control and moving your feet are learned skills and I'm hopeful he can put in the work this offseason. Like BGR, I just want to see him play more minutes. Last night he had 10 and 5 in just his first 10 min on the court but again his lack of conditioning caused him to foul more.

To be honest I'm not at all interested in becoming the Spurs first round whipping boys so why not shut Milsap down when Fes and Frank get back from their minor I'd-rather-not-play-on-this-roadtrip and play the kid 30 min a night? (Of course I don't run the Jazz and therefore I don't know exactly what 2 extra home games of revenue might actually generate so I'm speaking purely from a fan's perspective)
