Jefferson doesn't look heavy at all. In fact, I think he looks kind of skinny. Kind of hard to believe he's 277 right there.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Which is why I have a hard time when we throw out weight numbers for players. In some cases like AK or CJ or Gordie Hayward I can see thinking they need to add weight (speaking of which did anybody else hear Ronnie Brewer put on about 15 lbs of muscle in the off-season???) or a guy like Fess obviously needing to lose weight. But with Al, we don't really know where he was at last year, and who knows what their actual weight is compared to what it is listed.

In my eyes, 275 is not bad for a 6'11" guy muscling around in the paint. Malone was what, 6'8" and played at about 265? Granted his 265 was with 2% body fat, but still I don't view 275 as too heavy for a guy like Al. Especially given the way he looks. He doesn't look like Oliver Miller and I guess that is what is most important.

Yeah, I'm calling BS. It is very difficult to put on 15 lbs of muscle in 5 months. Especially without steroids. 15 pounds in a year is pretty impressive.

        • I know it's not a big deal to some, but I'm really glad the seats match the court/uniforms again. That has bothered me for the last 13 years. The new unis are a welcome change.

No, I'm pretty sure he did. Boler must have mentioned it 300 times during broadcasts the last two seasons.

              • This, my friends, is the kind of hard hitting journalism we can expect from the new beat writer for the Trib:

Hayward and Evans have made the best impression thus far among Jazz rookies.

                    • Hollinger's player projections are out...again leaving me wondering if there is any statistical "analysis" in sports that is less meaningful. Do they keep stats for the WNBA?

In other news, 100% percent of NBA GMs think Deron Williams has the worst comb over in the league.

                        • According to Hollinger, Deron's shooting needs to be more consistent before we seriously move him into the best PG discussion. This despite the fact that the only PG who is a clear-cut better shooter is Nash, and the fact that 100% of everyone who watches the NBA already considers him in the discussion of the very best PG's.

For Williams to take the next step up, he has to shoot more consistently. Last season he hit 37.1 percent of his 3s, 80.1 percent of his free throws, and 43.8 percent of his long 2s. Those are very good numbers for mere mortals, but to move Williams more seriously into the best point guard conversation, they need to be more like 41-85-47.
So how do you improve your percentages from 3, long 2's and the FT line? Why you play more on the block, of course.

One way he could get there is by scoring more on post-ups, something he seemed to do more often last season.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'm sure Hollinger thinks he needs to rebound more, too.

                              He actually compliments his rebounding.

                              • Solid defender who rebounds well and has size to guard many 2s.
I forgot to add that last year he did an article on best PG's, and he had Deron at the top.

                              • According to the GM Survey, Jerry Sloan is the 2nd best coach in the league. It also lists Phil Johnson as the leagues best assistant coach and Tyrone Corbin as the 2nd best assistant coach. Crazy!
