So you know, if you didn't, I grew up mostly in LA County. It sucks having to stay up until 2am to watch them here.

3 days rest doesn't bode well for the Jazz on Saturday. I do expect the Lakers to drop one of the two in SLC.

This is not surprising given that LA plays 5 guys in the paint. I keep waiting for the Jazz to do the same given that LA isn't a very good shooting team, but by this point we know Jerry isn't much of a coach when it comes to defensive strategy. Is it too late to hire Pops?

Remember that one year when Vaginacic was good? Dude hit something like +40% from 3 and was a pretty aggressive perimeter defender. What happened to that guy? Was that year just a fluke.

That's a stellar line. Especially when nobody is guarding you.

At this point, why would you not defend LA the way they are defending us? They pack all 5 guys into the paint to take space away from Deron and Booz (taking a cue from what SA has done since the WCF), and dare us to beat them with jumpshots. I'm looking at shooting numbers for LA's primary players (3pt% and eFg% on jumpshots), and this is not all that great a jumpshooting team. In fact, their 3pt shooting is pretty ugly overall for their main guards/wings.

Kobe: 32.9%
Fish: 34.8%
Artest: 35.5%
Farmar: 37.6%
Odom: 31.9%
Brown: 32.8%

The great SA teams killed you playing the two-man game, and when you tried to collapse they had like 3-5 guys shooting +40% from 3. Jazz play a great two-man game, but don't have the shooters. At this point, LA looks pretty similar.

Pack the paint around Poo, make everyone else shoot midrange, and live with the results.

So far in the series, the Lakers are 6/29 from 3. And this is at home, where most teams traditionally shoot better. When a team is shooting that poorly from deep and still ringing you up for 108 ppg, there's got to be a better way to go about scheming on defense.

I see no reason not to play 5 in the paint the way they do us. Give them midrange and beyond, but try and take away the paint. If they beat you shooting jumpers, then so be it.
