We have to get more than him back for that. We're throwing a bone to Dallas by helping them clear space. Can't just accomodate that so easily.

What else would you want in return?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

At this point, Millsap is probably the best player in the deal, so I feel like we should get at least a pick or another player in the deal.

I'm not real sold that Mo Williams is what the Jazz need. I'd just as soon try to package Millsap and Hayward and possibly the GS pick to get someone who actually will make a difference for the Jazz. Mo Williams is just another 3rd tier player that can be the third option on a team and the Jazz have plenty of guys like that already.

Millsap is not part of the deal.

If Millsap isn't part of the deal I'm ok with that. I thought I read yesterday that he was.

I'd get on the horn with Philly about Iggy for those two.

Millsap + Hayward + 1st rounder is an awful lot to give up for Iguodala. I wouldn't trade Hayward straight up for him.

You thought the Mo Williams trade included Millsap? Yikes.

Jazz would be getting Mo Williams for just the trade exception, right?

I'm surprised how much he floats on his long jumper. Good thing Bruce Bowen isn't playing anymore or Murphy's ankles wouldn't last more than a season or two.

I'm sure they'd give back other players as well.

I'm just throwing that out there as a base.

Would you give Millsap and the pick for Iggy straight accross?

                      Heh, I did.

That's why I was so against it. I must have misunderstood what I read.

Jazz would only be giving up their TPE. I agree with Jacob that a TPE in and of itself is not terribly valuable, so I'm not sure how much more you could expect to get for it. I do agree that there should be some value in accomodating Dallas, since they're obviously a WC team looking to clear space and get better. Before yesterday their 1st rounder would have been attractive, but that doesn't work now. I would love to get their 1st rounder next year (and I'm sure the Jazz are trying), and I'm assuming that is still in play as they traded a player yesterday and not the actual pick. That would give us 3 picks probably somewhere in the teens next year and puts us in a strong position to get back in the top 10.

I'd get on the horn with Philly about Iggy for those two.
My view is that step is a solid move backward. I'm with Donut -- I'm not even sure I'd give up Hayward for Iggy at this point. You lose a significant part of your youth movement, and if you give up that GS pick handicap what you can do in the draft next year. Also, if he picks up that player option, he just crushes everything the Jazz are setting up for (which is to be the player in next year's FA). No thanks.

                              Who's available next year?

My thing with the NBA is that you have to either be great or suck. If you're in the middle you're just stuck becuase you don't suck enough to get an elite player in the draft, but you're not good enough to make a serious playoff fun.

I get the Jazz are trying to build a youthful team and become the next OKC, but I'm just not sure we have the pieces they do. They just seemed to hit it all great at once, and i don't think our main young pieces have nearly the talent that their guys do.

So, I'm all for sitting vets and seeing what happens in development of the young guys, which is exactly what we didn't do last year.

I don't love Al Jefferson, and I'd prefer we keep Millsap over him, but he's good enough, just like when we had guys like Matt Harpring, to keep us from tanking enough to get a truly special player in the draft. But, he's not good enough to lead us to sustained playoff success.

So, there lies the quandry with Utah. You hope the team has enough pieces that they grow up at the same time and mature in to an elite unit and then you can add the pieces necessary to surround them with role player vets and locker room guys to compliment what you have.

I just don't think our core is talented enough at this point. We have guys that are well served to be 2nd or 3rd options in an offense, but are miscast as the first option because we have nobody better.

I just saw how good Lebron and Durant were in the Finals, and how good Duncan and Kobe have been over the years and it doesn't seem like we'll ever get a guy like that who we can truly build a team around.
