One rumor posted yesterday was New Orleans being open to moving their 10th pick if a team will take on Okafor's $28 M salary over the next two years, or possibly sending the 10th out if someone will take Ariza and the $15 M he is owed over the same time.

I doubt anyone is taking on Okafor's deal just to get the 10th pick. But the Ariza idea is intriguing because his last year is a player option. I doubt he opts out of making $7 M that last year, but there is a possibility that he does to get another long term contract sooner. And while NO would obviously prefer to shed Okafor's deal, moving Ariza w/o taking anything back would give them enough money to sign Gordon, draft Davis, and still make another big free agent signing.

But that's an expensive draft pick purchase for another wing that can't shoot. Ariza does have a lower usage rate than CJ, he rebounds more, his defensive numbers are better, he assists more, and he creates more turnovers. But he should be better, he makes twice what CJ did.

Jazz are talking to Tomic. He's apparently got one more year on his deal with Real, so I don't know if they are looking at a buyout or waiting one more year and then bringing him over. Judging by his numbers he took a step back last year, but I still think he could be a contributor in a big man rotation and it seems fairly common as of late to have Euro kids come over at 25-30. Thought if he was hoping to be an NBA player (and I'm not sure he ever was), I think he made a mistake in not coming over. He didn't need to develop his game but rather his body, and here he would have had access to nutritionists, trainers, etc. Oh well. I still like to bring him over at some point and see if he can help. It's a low risk high reward scenario for the Jazz.

Jazz are talking to Tomic. He's apparently got one more year on his deal with Real, so I don't know if they are looking at a buyout or waiting one more year and then bringing him over. Sounds like Montiejunas will be joining Houston next year, and they've also got the 14th and 16th picks. No way they want three rookies on a team that just barely missed the playoffs last year. Would love to see something worked out with them and Utah...Lowry and one of those picks coming to Utah would be great.

I guess he would have access, but I just don't think it's as much of a priority because the European game isn't as physical.

Houston is going to wait and see what they can get in a big this off season before trading for Jefferson, IMO. They are probably thinking they can still make a move for Gasol.

But since Toronto is willing to part with the 8th pick, why not Millsap and next years Pick for the #8? That help's Toronto, I think, except they might want to see what they've got in Bargnani and Valanciunas next year. Ideally, they'd want to get a wing and lure Steve Nash to his home country. But that probably won't happen. Then again, if the dang Raptors could have just won a measly coin-flip, the Jazz would already own that #8 pick.

IMO, Millsap won't be on the team after next year. If you were working on that assumption, does it sound like a better deal? What if you were able to get the player you really liked? Barnes? Lamb?

On Corbin/Popovich
When we were playing the San Antonio Spurs, I got into [watching] it a little bit. I kept hearing about how Ty[rone Corbin] was getting outcoached by [Gregg] Popovich every other minute. “It’s experience,” and this and that and over there. Well, I guess [Scott] Brooks just outcoached [Popovich] in this last series, huh? …

To me, it’s ridiculous. Yeah, there are some moves that you make, but to say game in and game out, four straight games, that you’re getting outcoached, that’s ridiculous. It does have a little bit to do with talent and who you have playing for you, and so that’s the part that bothers me some with the media…Popovich is obviously great at what he does and their organization is great and they have a great team, but to get outcoached every time you step out on the floor? I mean, it’s silly. I thought Ty did a good job of trying to adjust, but some of his players couldn’t make shots.

What do you think of Derrick Favors?
These are questions that I have and we’ll see. Everybody’s going off crazy about how great Derrick Favors is. These are the questions I have. How hard does he work? How devoted is he to his talent, and where’s he gonna take it? Now, obviously he has physical talent and he’s a good guy. The question is, to be great, you have to take that to a level in working out and developing your body and working on your skillset. There’s the question. To just go off and say, “Boy, he’s gonna be an All-Pro guy for ten years,” it’s gonna depend on what he does.

You can coach him all you want. He has to have that inner fire. Everybody says he’s a good guy and he works pretty hard. Let’s see where he goes with it. That’s what separates those guys. That’s what separate John and Karl, if you want to talk about old players. Karl Malone was the hardest, they were the hardest-working players on the team. They didn’t roll out of bed one morning and become Hall of Fame players. They worked at it. And so, if Derrick Favors wants to really put his heart and soul into it, he has so much potential it’s mind-boggling. He’s gonna be good, but how good? That’s the question I have.

What about Gordon Hayward?
I think he’s got tremendous talent, but I’m sure he really feels bad about the Playoffs, and those things happen, but he had some run after the All-Star break. I really think he’s going to be a very, very good player. I look at him as a multi-faceted player. I’m gonna say, he could average 14 or 15 [points] a game, and 5 rebounds and 5 assists type guy. That’s how good I think he’ll be…He’s a pretty good worker as well. We didn’t know that [before drafting him]. After having him part of the year, he went through a lot his first year. I just think he keeps getting better and better.
