No way is he better than John Lucas III. Lucas is a vet. And Dennis Lindsey went to Baylor and so did Lucas. Lindsey also saw Lucas shooting the ball around the Houston Rockets facilities when his John Lucas II was employed by the Rockets. Solid gold signing.

    Signed,

At this point, I'm hoping we get Hayward for the bargain contract that Steph Curry is getting paid. Staring at 9MM and going up to 12MM, Seems odd that expectations have changed without the on-court performance to justify it (Compared to Curry).

            What?
Jazz and Corbin working on extension.

Why? Let him prove he deserves it. He hasn't yet.

              Really?

They want to sign up for more of Ty Corbin? There's people out of work right now who are better coaches than Corbin. Let him earn it.

I generally take this pre-season hype with a grain assault, and this is really no different, but if legit, it could be a good thing for Burks:

“Alec [Burks] was the biggest winner,” said (Dr. Marcus) Elliott (of P3). The staff really admired him for his work over the past couple years. He has apparently improved in a number of areas from hip stability, knee position and trunk strength, all of which affect quickness. They recognize the unique opportunity Burks will have this season to finally get steady minutes, potentially even as a starter. He is considered one of their more “elastic” athletes. He reached a vertical height of 12′ 2.5″ during an approach this summer. When he first arrived in May 2012 he maxed out at 11′ 8.5″. That height is especially worth noting considering that he also weighs 11 more pounds than when he started.

I'm hoping he really flourishes in that backup combo guard role.

I wonder how the players are going to react when Corbin plays Jefferson, Rush, and Biedrins big minutes this year, because all anybody (except Corbin) is talking at media day is the "youth movement", "new beginning", and "core four taking over."

Corbin did say (and it was reiterated by Lindsey) that Hayward is going to have the ball in his hands a lot this year. And that Jeremy Evans can be a leader for the team even if he doesn't play much...because the league is full of leaders who never play 15+ mpg at any point in their career.

The most intriguing aspect of the talk leading into the preseason is Lindsey's insistence that this year is all about establishing a defensive identity. I find it intriguing because just playing hard on defense doesn't establish the right defensive culture. And neither does having a nice defensive big like Favors can certainly be. The scheme has to be right, the scheme has to match personnel, and the coaches have to get the personnel to execute that scheme consistently on the court. So Lindsey is saying the right things, but he doesn't have anyone on the coaching staff that has proven to be a solid defensive mind. He said they have tried to give Corbin a team where he can try out different rotations and yet always have a rim protector on the court. But having a true rim protector isn't what it was worth 10 years ago. Just moving Al is a huge leap forward in the right direction, but I'm doubtful Corbin/Lowe/Sanders can do anything to improve the defense outside of just having different personnel on the court.

Hoopshype said No extension for Corbin. That the Jazz told him they wanted to see how he does this season.

Poorly. I cannot imagine that happening without Corbin getting fired or fans rioting in the streets.

                                From Mr. Lindsey:

Alec Burks has been just very consistent with plugging in to team related activities. He's starting to maximize, you'll notice his body. That's what everybody says. They say, "Oh my gosh he's becoming a man!" He's much more athletic than he was when we got him two years ago. He's more balanced. He had what we call an upper body sway that impacted a some of his lateral movements. So if he's moving to his right putting his foot down and changing direction back to the left, his upper body would move more like a noodle. We wanted it to be a little more over his hips. Hopefully, we have helped his contain defense, in theory.
No more noodle for Burks. That pretty much guarantees stardom.
