Monumental clusterf*@#. Portland gets two lottery picks despite drafting Oden, trading for Felton, and losing Roy. Sacramento keeps their pick and Kevin O'conner will get better outside shooting by encouraging the players currently under contract to shoot better. :igiveup:

It seems like they've been saying that about every draft for the past 15 years. Some are bad, some aren't. I put zero stock in Ford or anybody else saying that.

MKG, while I like him, might be the weakest 2nd overall pick, from a pre-draft standpoint, the draft has ever seen. IMO, if everything goes right for him in terms of being a NBA player, he works hard and achieves his potential, he's Gerald Wallace.

The counter-argument is that while he may not have the highest potential, he is sure to be an effective NBA player. Compare to some recent 2nd overall picks:
Williams, Turner, Thabeet, Beasley.

The one thing all those guys have in common is that they either have excellent potential due to being 7'2" or they at least were huge producers in college. MKG is a 6'7" wing who showed nice potential, but didn't really star or produce nearly on the scale of the guys you mentioned during that year in college. At least Williams, Beasley and Turner were 1st team all-america caliber guys and put up all-america numbers. You were drafting a guy who at least proved he could star at the college level. MKG hasn't even done that.

Bottom line is that you should be able to draft the token young, athletic wing player with potential and a good motor who does several things well, in the 6-10 range if not later.

Good point. MKG is a better 2nd pick, even pre-draft, than Bowie was. Yikes. At least MKG is mostly healthy, IIRC.

We talked about this a little before, but let's dig a little deeper (assumption: everyone would trade anyone on the team for Davis, excepting, maybe Favors):

Which players in the draft would you trade Kanter for? Probably nobody.

Jefferson? Any top 12 pick. Reasoning: Jefferson won't be on the team after this year. I'm looking towards competing for title in 3-4 years.

Millsap? Any top 12 pick. See above reasoning. I think there will be a player of Millsap's caliber available at 12. This is an either/or with Jefferson. I wouldn't look to move them both and I'd prefer to move Jefferson.

Burks? Kidd, Barnes, Beal, Jones III, maybe Lillard. I like Burks, but am not sure how good he will be. I think he will be a really good bench player. Will probably not be a good starter at the wing with Hayward.

Hayward? Not sure. None are guaranteed to be better than Hayward. Might not trade him for #2.

In Hollinger's chat he was asked what Utah could reasonably get if they moved Al or Paul. His reply was send Millsap to Portland for the #6 to draft Lillard. Yes please.

But no way Portland is taking back $7 M in salary AND giving up the 6th pick for someone like Millsap. But the 11th pick, with maybe Utah taking back a small salary like Elliot Williams? Yes please.

The real deal I want done with Portland, and likely a third team, is Batum coming to Utah.
