But from watching that one preseason game I can say that one way Corbin is different from Sloan is that Burks would never, ever see the court if Sloan was the coach. He's way too smooth in how he plays the game. Sloan would see it as a lack of effort and would sit him for at least 1.5 seasons.

Corbin appears to be like Sloan in that when the opposing team puts Batum at PF because he can create an incredible mismatch on offense and isn't a liability on defense because Okur is left in to guard him, Corbin just leaves his front line the same instead of substituting Favors back in to abuse Batum on the block.
If I'm an opposing coach, I put a sf in at the 4 every time Memo is in the game because he will never take advantage on the offensive end. IOW, Memo should never see the floor other than perhaps in end of game situations when the Jazz need shooters.

    • Not impressed with the defense. Not at all. Jefferson is terrible on that end. I couldn't figure out what he was doing. Rotations are terrible. Guys getting wide open shots.
Kanter and Favors are better defenders than Jefferson and Memo by a long shot already.

Loved seeing the corner three left wide open time and time again last night.

I don't know if I've ever seen an NBA team look so bad on defense. It wasn't just a crew of guys not even trying. They were actually rotating and trying, but were just doing an abysmal job.

Good thing we've got Layden on the staff. Much better to have him and his clipboard than a defensive coach.

At some point playing Hayward, Evans, Favors, and Kantor together will be inevitable. Jeremy and Gordon have great range and rotation. Add in Burks as the ball handler and that's a rangy, solid defensive line up.

Jefferson is who he is and will always be a soft scoring big. I'm tired of believing he can change. When you have both he and Memo you have real problems. I'd really like both to be traded by season's end. Hopefullt fror another scoring 2/3 or true point.

Give the defense some time, it's unfair to make that call after two preseason games with a new defensive scheme, and the defense was actually really good in the 2nd half despite the fact that Portland should have missed a few. Jefferson's D is still nothing special, but it looked better and he was running the court better with the work he put in Santa Barbara this summer. I liked the adjustments that Ty did to the defense when it looked horrible on Monday night, the transition defense is still a big work in progress, but all of these guys have to adjust from a Sloan system of forcing guys to the middle.

Not all of those wide open corner shots where his fault either, Raja Bell and Devin Harris were pathetic and there were countless times where they left their man wide open and Jefferson had to cover, but couldn't because he doesn't have lateral quickness to. My top 3 guys of people who I want to see gone from this Jazz team is Raja, Devin, and Okur.

I don't see any reason why the Jazz shouldn't trade Memo by the trade deadline, he's a total liability to this team just so he can shoot a few threes and make some shots. I do want to see Jefferson traded at one point as well.

              Where are you hearing this?

(edit) nevermind, apparently it's coming from Boler, which means they probably changed their mind about Mcleod and he's back on the roster.

                Twitter?

Okur traded for a 2nd Round Pick + Trade Exception. I'm glad to see he's gone.

Is that really what it is? If so, glad to see Memo gone, but I wouldn't call that big. Boler didn't disappoint.

Yes, that's what it is. And I just said it was "BIG" news because that's what everyone was breaking about on Twitter.

                          • Apparently that trade exception is worth 10 million according to Locke. So that could open a lot of options to get a good piece like Andre Iguodala who some have wanted.

sounds like it. If so, it's a solid move, IMO.

While I know it's a wise business decision, I'm a bit sad to see Memo go. He has been one of my favorite Jazz players over the last handful of years. That year Boozer sat out the entire season with a sore areola, Memo stepped up and put up some decent scoring and rebounding numbers in his place. IMO, it's unfortunate that Memo had to play his prime years alongside an even worse defender in Boozer, as I think he could have really shined aside a more defensive-minded big.
