The Jazz starting backcourt is maddening. Burke shoots 38% and 34% 3pt, while Hayward comes in at 41% and 32%. Hayward is especially frustrating because he is such a good all-around talent, but damn, too many games like tonight when he goes 3-11.

I had the same thought as they were guarding each other. I think DD is a best case scenario in terms of Burks potential, but I agree with CJ that Derozan plays bigger and I don't see Burks ever playing big like that. DD will take guys into the post occasionally, and that just doesn't seem like something Burks will add.

Burks is so much better at 22 years old than DD was. But that was also DD's worst year FWIW. Burks has a nice advantage in that he has shot 35% from 3 in his career while DD is at 26% (though Derozan is up to 31% this season). Their FTA rates are almost identical so far this year, even though DeRozan takes 7 FTA/gm in his 37 mpg; DD is the better FT shooter. Their rebound and assist rates are almost identical, but DD keeps his turnovers down better.

This year Burks has played 30+ minutes in 16 games, averaging 33 mpg in those contests. In those 16 he averaged 18.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.6 apg, and shot 51/41/79. In several of those games Hayward was out and Burks moved up the offensive food chain, kind of like Gay being moved to free DeRozan up in Toronto. Except DD has gotten a lot less efficient on offense minus Gay, while Burks has improved his efficiency significantly with more minutes and more shots.

I don't know if Burks can expand his shot or overall game enough to be significantly better than DeRozan, but I also don't think he's too far off from being his equal right now.

If only we could have a throw away season where a guy like Burks could play 35-40 minutes a game to see what he could do over the course of 82 games with heavy minutes. Maybe next year.

Jefferson has been killing it for about a month now. In fact, you could go back to his game against Chicago on 1/11, and I bet his numbers since then until today would be very close to 29 and 12.

I've read his defense has been a lot better as well because they've kept him inside instead of chasing pick and rollers around. Maybe our coaches are just stupid in how they handled him.

Burke has been so bad lately. Same with G-Time. G hit a streak there where it looked like he was breaking out. 22/4/2, 22/2/6, 37/11/7 and 27/5/5 in consecutive games on scorching %'s. Since then he's been the shits.

I'm at a loss with Gordon. He has this belief as do the coaches that he can take people off the bounce but too bad he doesn't know how to bounce the ball and have it return to his hand. He's shooting horribly, taking horribly unbalanced shots, and his passing has been a guarenteed fast break the other way. Did I leave anything out?
