Having either him or Chatman would have been a huge boon this year.

I think kids with other good options who come to BYU do so to be featured. When they decide being featured is not in their future they are comfortable moving on.

That is not unique to BYU.

I agree but at bigger programs kids will often stick around in a lesser role if they believe they have a chance to win it all. BYU might get some mormon kids to stick around for the experience but I think the social issues make it harder to keep a kid like Frank Bartley. Throw in the juggling of missions and having good depth is usually a bridge to far for a program like BYU. That should explain to all why Davin Guinn plays decent minutes as a backup. It will always be that way and blessed is the BYU team where a kid like Guinn is only 9th or 10th in minutes played!

I only looked at one to confirm he was an idiot. The Ohio State University has recruited better than we have, doesn't have a mission problem, isn't all freshmen and sophomores, and had a worse season. I won't go down the rabbit hole and post over ther but damn someone needs to straighten those clowns out.

Not sure I agree with that either. Mark Few has built up a nice program, partly with transfers from bigger schools.

And BYU picked up one AP vote!
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I was very critical of Bryant early on. He has proven me wrong. I hope he continues to progress and improve as he has recently shown some great potential.

His early performances created the impression he wouldn't recover from surgery. It seems rare somebody takes a break mid-season and recover to play better. Certainly a nice surprise after an unpleasant beginning.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Bartley didn't have many offers so I am not sure where he thought he would be the man. Came down to BYU and Auburn, he also took an official visit to Utah, not sure if he had an offer.

Isaac Neilson said he was asked by Dave Rose to transfer. He wanted to stay. Probably couldn't find room for a guy averaging 10 and 10 in 22 minutes on 60% from the floor.

Cory Calvert- again he was asked to transfer, I can't imagine he is any worse than Leifson or Beo. I am fine with him leaving as I think its a wash. But still weird.

Jake Toolson- I know he was dealing with his anxiety and back issues. But it seemed like Dave Rose gave up on him. I think he will have a huge year for UVU next year.

Again if we are going to give schollies to guys like Beo, Guinn and Leifson because we lack perimeter shooters, why didn't we offer Connor Toolson out of SLCC? He is only a soph and the kid can shoot the rock. Would have been a nice addition on the wing. You have ever other Lone Peak kid from that team, might as well add the 5th starter.

Based on how Nielson is doing and our need for upfront people, if he was asked to leave that was a pretty big blunder.

He was definitely asked to leave.

"He didn't say anything about walking on [playing without a scholarship] or anything like that," Neilson said. "He just said it would probably be in my best interest to find another place to play. … He said he kinda felt like we were on different pages. I guess he thought I would be a bigger, stronger, low-post player, and I guess I like space, pretty much. I am a shooter."

at the time he was a 2ppg, 3 rebounds per game player. He was tall but played like he had no interest playing close to the basket. I think the transfer may have been a wakeup call for him.
