I like the range but he seems to shoot more of a set shot than a jumper. Not a big deal when most of the kids on HS teams that play on the perimeter are barely taller than 6' but not something he will be able to nonchalantly pull off at the D1 level. There are also limited clips of him penetrating. However, the couple of dunks - especially the one on a rebound, indicate that he has some athletic ability. Perhaps he just has yet to develop the ball handling skills to take the ball into traffic in the paint. I think a year RS'ing at BYU is just what the doctor ordered. Then in 15-16 with a core of perimeter players of Kyle C, Fischer, Bartley, Chatman, Emery, Toolsen and Corey Calvert he will see a lot of minutes as a freshman and then be a 3 year starter after Kyle and Fischer graduate.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I would love to have another set shooter like Noah Hartsock. However, there is a big difference between a 6'9" stretch 4 shooting a set shot, than a 6'5ish 2 or 3. His release reminds me a little of hr Reid brothers, but it doesn't spin sideways like Randy or knuckle like Robbie's did - I'm still amazed those two could score the way they did, considering the funky rotation they both had.

I don't mind that he doesn't elevate much on his jumper. He has a quick release. He reminds a lot of a more athletic version of Tavernari.
I wonder how well an anxiety disorder meshes with playing ball in front of 20K fans in a big arena. I hope the kid finds a way to manage things and have a normal life.
Playing in front of big crowds probably is not what triggers his anxiety. Being away from family, with people he doesn't know and routine he is unfamiliar with would make anyone anxious.

Yeah, a mission is a really weird environment. We had a really cool guy who had a schizophrenic break a couple of months out. I think that they push you to your edge, whatever that is at the time.
The desire to be perfect and the really high internal expectations also play hugely into the stress. I changed in lots of positive ways, but it was a pressure cooker. I don't think I would try to infer anything to what life will be like after a mission for a kid in his situation.
I feel for him in the next few months. No matter where you stand on the church stuff, you know he is in for a tough couple of months. I am sure even not going will cause him a wild emotional ride on it's own.
If he plays we'll have 15 eligible players and 13 scholarships. Maybe Rose can convince him to walk-on for a couple years since this is clearly not BYU's fault and I'm sure this has been explained to him. On the other hand, maybe risk another less valuable player defecting.

Just read that the Zags filled out their roster with transfer additions. One is a kid named Wesley from USC who was the Trojans leading scorer last year who will transfer in for a Zag grad program and likely start at the 3. The other is a kid named McClellan who was Vandy's leading scorer until he was kicked off the team and out of school for getting into trouble with the law. He is not likely to be eligible until end of fall semester, like Aytes, and might screw up in Spokane, but the Zags have a pretty decent roster. Pangos, Bell, Wesley, Wiltjer and Karnowski will start with subs being last year's starting 3 and the Pride of Boise, ID Draginis at the 3, McClellan at the 2, Nunez at the 4 and two very highly touted true freshman recruits in Arvydas Sabonis' son at 4/5 and a kid named Perkins from Colorado who will play the point.
If Wiltjer can come close to what he was projected out of HS, they could be really good.

Gonzaga seems to always just reload and they do it with creative recruiting.
I wonder if we can assume that Toolsen is going to walk-on? If he doesn't try the mission thing again that is going to make scholarship management more difficult. I wonder if Cory Calvert becomes a casualty? I would like to see him get another year to prove himself. Do you know if Nixon plans on going on a mission after this year?
Oh and Goat, who is your pick for newcomer of the year to BYU?
