If Nixon can shoot 3's then he can bring very valuable spacing. The past couple of years the lack of 3 point shooting has really hurt. If we can get it from a position where we have not gotten it in years past it will open up spacing for the others. Defense is another matter.

Why don't more coaches follow the great team defensive concepts taught by the likes of Pop, Vogel, or Thibodeau? Sure, those coaches happen to have rosters filled with the greatest basketball players in the world but it doesn't mean the concepts can't be adopted. Or hire a Jim Boeheim disciple to come teach the guys to play a good zone defense. It's just sad when your hope is to simply outscore the opponent.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostIf Nixon can shoot 3's then he can bring very valuable spacing. Isn't outscoring your opponent kinda necessary if you want to win?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostWhy don't more coaches follow the great team defensive concepts taught by the likes of Pop, Vogel, or Thibodeau? I know it won't happen for various reasons, but I think it would be really cool if Rose redshirted both Tyler Haws and Collinsworth next year and turned it into the develop Frank Bartley, Jordan Chatman, Chase Fischer, Jamal Aytes and Isaac Neilson show. Then in 2015-2016 BYU could hopefully make a run with a team capable of winning a game in the tourney or two. Then following that club Aytes and Collinsworth would provide a great bridge to time of the Mika, Dastrup, Haws II, Emery, Chatman and Toolsen run.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Interesting idea. What would that do to the scholarship crunch?Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI know it won't happen for various reasons, but I think it would be really cool if Rose redshirted both Tyler Haws and Collinsworth next year and turned it into the develop Frank Bartley, Jordan Chatman, Chase Fischer, Jamal Aytes and Isaac Neilson show. I think it would force Casey Calvert out. If Chatman or Bartley develops a decent game at PG it wouldn't hurt. Further, Nick Emery will be a freshman at BYU next year also so that would be another option at PG. If BYU doesn't renew Calvert after his mission and Rose would finally listen to me the 15-16 roster would be:Originally posted by Pelado View PostInteresting idea. What would that do to the scholarship crunch?
Haws - SR
Fischer - SR
Worthington - JR
Collinsworth - JR
Aytes - JR
Bartley - JR
Davis - JR
Neilson - SO
Chatman - SO
Emery - FR
Shaw - FR
Hartsock - FR
Seljaas - FR
Then to accomodate Collinsworth being on scholarship in 16-17, BYU sends either Shaw or Worthington packing and Seljaas goes on a mission. The roster that year would then be:
Collinsworth - SR
Aytes - SR
Bartley - SR
Davis - SR
Neilson - JR
Chatman - JR
Emery - SO
Shaw - SO
Mika - SO
Hartsock - SO
Haws - FR
Dastrup - FR
Toolsen - FR
In fact since Rose finally listened to me and gave Neilson the time to develop Isaac rises to such heights that he is so dominant as a Junior that Mika is able to redshirt his first year back from his mission and joins the Dastrup, Haws II and Toolsen eligibility track. Then Neilson goes pro after his junior year after being a key cog in BYU's Elite 8 team but BYU doesn't miss a beat as the starting 5 the following year of Emery, Haws, Chatman, Dastrup and Mika lead BYU back to the Elite 8 setting up BYU's first Final 4 team in 18-19 with a starting 5 of Emery, Haws, Toolsen, Dastrup and Mika. Of course Emery breaks Jimmer's single season scoring records and wins the Wooden Award leading BYU to its first Final 4 and all the pundits talk about the nosedive BYU will experience the following season with Nick's graduation, but those who read Cougarboard really know the truth that everyone at practice had been saying all year that Frank Jackson was really BYU's best point guard so the real breakthrough comes in 2019-2020 when a starting 5 of Jacks, Haws, Toolsen, Dastrup and Mika lead BYU to an undefeated 41-0 season and BYU's first National Championship.
To be sure this all starts with redshirting Collinsworth and Haws next year and allowing Isaac Neilson to develop into the man as a true freshman who happens to be 22 years old. The kid needs to get to the league sooner as his biological clock is, in the immortal words of Mona Lisa Vito...tick..tick..tickin'!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

It's always nice to know that out there someone is thinking about their favorite team even more than I am."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault
