I do find it interesting that 8 guys on the roster are from Utah County. That said, I think the biggest problem Rose has had over the last couple of years is the lack of defense. It just isn't a priority to his style of play. Not only that but this team over the past couple of years has not been able to win close games. I would be curious to see what Rose's record is with games decided within the last two minutes of a game. This year he haven't won a single close game. To me that is a combination of poor coaching and poor execution.

BYU was 4-3 in games decided by 5 points or less last year and 3-5 this year.Originally posted by A-Train View PostNot only that but this team over the past couple of years has not been able to win close games. I wonder whether that is the best metric for identifying games that were decided within the last two minutes of play. I'm not sure how "decided" is defined here, but your measure would leave out a game like Gonzaga, which was a one-possession game with two minutes to go (80-77 Gonzaga). I would say that definitely fits any reasonable definition of being decided within the last two minutes. I think a game like Long Beach State is trickier. BYU won by five after CSLB made a lay-up at the buzzer. BYU had a six- to nine-point lead otherwise during the final two minutes of that game. Was that game decided in the final two minutes? There are arguments either way.Originally posted by SCcoug View PostBYU was 4-3 in games decided by 5 points or less last year and 3-5 this year."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

Probably not the best metric but I didn't have time to search the play by play.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostI wonder whether that is the best metric for identifying games that were decided within the last two minutes of play. I was refering to Haws, Austin and Sharp. I know where they went to school. Actually, I generally presume all of BYU's players to Lone Peak. Collinsworth is not from Lone Peak?Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostHe is talking about the Emery, Haws, Mika triumvirate. He has no idea where Haws, Austin or Sharp attended high school.
For the record, I think it's very regrettable that Emery, Haws, and Mika went on missions. History shows that for basketball players this is devastating to their development trajectory. Their parents care more about the prestige of a son on a mission than their athletic careers. No wonder those kids are going to BYU; they're brainwashed. When I was a kid BYU basketball players never went on missions. Nobody gave it a second thought when Ainge didn't go. In fact, Devin Durrant started this, and when he said he was going that is what raised eyebrows. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

For the record I support the kids whether they choose to serve a mission or choose not to.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Post

There is an old saying, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Let them worry about theirs.

Oh be quiet. You need to take the bad with the good. The same insidioiusness that got them on missions induced them to sign with BYU.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostI agree.

Tyler Haws and Kyle Collinsworth -- your best guard line in history (pe CJ) --are 5-4 in the WCC. Just imagine what might have been. How many RMs have had NBA careers of any moment? This is significant, because demonstrably Mormon/Utah culture is extremely sports crazy and turns out a disproporationate number of of athletes.Originally posted by Crockett View PostTyler Haws and Kyle Collinsworth say hi.When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.
