Clarification: lower price means lower than what they've been listed for, not lower than face.Originally posted by jay santos View PostWoohoo! I'm headed down for the game. Also, if you're looking for tix, word is it's a soft market and there will be plenty available likely at lower price before game time.

That was very detailed and interesting, K'Dog, thanks. Before the Zags, I doubted BYU would recover its mojo. Thankfully, it's back and I think BYU will put up a very competitive effort. Who would have thought this possible two weeks ago?Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI've been thinking about this Florida team and thought I would put my thoughts down....

I think we zone a lot more than man. We may use some situational changing of the defense like after a timeout to counter whatever Billy may have drawn up in the huddle. And I think we'll start in man like we usually do until we get a feel for their offense. The zone has been effective against Florida this season. We'll just have to closeout quickly after they kick out of the double before they can reverse it like New Mexico was able to.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostStrategy:
I think we can man this team up. Hartsock will do a solid job on Macklin. Macklin is used to being the undersized quick guy and Hartsock should be able to stay in front of him. KC will need to guard Parsons and would be giving up size but would be defending a type of player at a position he is comfortable defending. Abuou would have a very tough assignment because he would guard Tyus and would be forced to double Macklin on deep catches and multiple bounce possessions. This would let Tyus get on the offensive glass and is probably the reason we don't do too much man. Jimmer would get Boynton and Jax would get Walker. I don't think there are too many bad matchups there and we wouldn't need to double too much considering how their offense works. Best of all it would let us rebound better and allow us to push the pace.
We can zone Florida but if we do we run a substantial risk of not getting out to their 3 three point shooters while still giving up too much on the offensive glass. If we go zone, we probably find ourselves with a lot of matchup stuff that will morph our 2-3 into a 3-2 looking zone. Again, this doesn't help us inside or on the glass.
Offensively, I think our ability to spread the floor outside the perimeter will be key. I think KC can attack Parsons off the bounce (they mostly play zone) and I think Abuou can attack Tyus off the bounce. Jimmer can attack anyone off the bounce. The result is that we will see a lot of help from Macklin who won't be comfortable playing out where Noah is. Noah's 3 point shooting will be crucial again offensively and he has to make himself available early on. Jackson should be able to get his shot off against either potential defender given his shooting style. He shouldn't pump fake, either Walker or Boynton will rip that soft pumpfake and it is unnecessary.
I think we'll see that little side scissor cut play work well against Florida like it did against Gonzaga and SDSU.
Once again this will be a pace game. I think we'll have a lot of trouble stopping them defensively but liberal changes between zone and D should keep them off balance. We need to rebound and we need to push off misses or makes. I expect Florida will only send two to the offensive glass in an effort to slow our running. If we get this thing in the 75 range, it will be a win for us. Jimmer can still win it for us in a slow game but we would need a lot more luck.
This is going to be a very difficult game for BYU to win IMO. I am hopeful that we can suck them into running with us and taking them out of their half court game. If we can get them to jack up 32 three-pointers like they did last year that would help too. This will be the biggest team we have faced since UCLA and we had Davies and Collinsworth for that game."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Did Purdue ever sell out their Sweet 16 allotment with Brad Miller or UCLA with Reggie Miller? Or more appropriately did Florida with Mike Miller?Originally posted by Coach McGuirk View PostHeard that BYU is the only team that went beyond their allotment. Winner, winner Cougareat dinner. As soon as I saw Nashif's shoes, I knew Trips and Donut will absolutely love those.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post1) Nashif's shoelaces/shoes/ankle socks;

Martineau just can't pull off the Jimmer look. In all fairness, I'm not sure Jimmer pulls it off that well.

UCLA was his first game back after his initial injury IIRC. Noah logged just a few minutes because he was still shaking off the concussion. Davies had one of his best games that day.Originally posted by hello View PostI thought Collinsworth was out this game, and Noah was recovering from his concussion issues. Noah still played, just not very effectively."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic
