Really? Ok...I'm not a coach of basketball, played in high school is all. I don't get into the mechanics today, as I don't want to spend the time and energy on that kind of stuff. (pretty qualified for an opinion eh?)
But...strictly speaking as a fan of basketball, do you really believe that Miller is/was a better college player ethan Jimmer? Really? I just can't remember Miller EVER doing anything that Jimmer can do. What did Miller do that Jimmer can't? Jimmer can do, most if not all things that Miller could do, it's just the coach probably doesn't ask him to post up, go low etc. (Miller with better size). But, if the coach asked Miller to shoot from Jimmer range, he couldn't do it...pretty sure.
No question - for this position, in my mind, it's Jimmer and it aint close.
He cant rebound or run an offense like Miller and he isnt nearly as good of a defensive player.

If Jimmer had been on that Utah team instead of Andre, they would have been a #1 seed and favored in all those big upsets they had in their tourney runs.
I'm sure they would be favored over a UNC team with Vince Carter and Jamison.

Wait. Are we debating teams or players? It is so confusing.

Teams don't matter. If you win in the Tourney, it's mostly luck.
Mostly? No.
Some? Absolutely.

For those curious, here are Jimmers and Andres senior year stats...their minutes per game are pretty close, Jimmer averages about 3 more minutes a game than what Andre did.
Points per game
Jimmer: 27.3
Andre: 15.8
Assists per game
Andre: 5.6
Jimmer: 4.3
Rebounds per game:
Andre: 5.4
Jimmer: 3.4
Steals per game:
Andre: 2.4
Jimmer: 1.4
Turnovers per game:
Andre: 2.2
Jimmer: 3.4
Shooting Percentage:
Jimmer: 46.1%
Andre: 49.1%
It really is not fair to compare either player with the other. Jimmer has taken over games with his scoring and he is absolutely brilliant. Andre was a more complete do anything kind of player and a much better defender. Both were fabulous.
If you were an opposing coach, would you rather face Andre or Jimmer? To me, this is a no-brainer, even though I really like Andre. Maybe the answer's not so clear-cut to everyone else.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Andre: 51.9%
As I said before, that's not a small difference, especially considering that Jimmer consistently faces double teams and/or the other team's best defender.
It goes without saying that they're both amazing PG's (they're both AA's!), but I'll agree with santos that POY sort of seals it, no?

If anyone should recognize a statistically meaningless small sample size in the form of a couple of NCAA Tournament runs, it should be a fan of sabermetrics like mpfunk.
I thought Andre Miller was a very underrated player in college and showed his senior season that he was awesome.
But Jimmer has never had anyone near the quality of Van Horn to play with. And after Keith left, there was still a great team left with Doleac, Mottola, Alex Jensen, etc. around Miller.
I think Jimmer has done more this season with less help around him than Andre Miller ever did. Overall I think it's pretty tough to compare the two guys though.

Like I said, I don't think its fair to compare these two players because they really are so different...Andre was 1st team All American as a senior. He lost out on Player of the Year to Elton Brand. Baron Davis, Steve Francis, Richard Hamilton and Lamar Odom were some of the other college players that year.
Sorry about this Wally. These Cougar Fans should leave this thread and let Ute Fans discuss BYU as the NC.
Apology accepted.
I am extremely disappointed in the direction this thread has taken. I started this thread as a “safe zone” for Utes to express fear and petty jealousy regarding BYU’s BB success. I leave it alone all day and BYU fans take a nice big juicy turd on it.
Can’t you guys just leave a Ute only thread to discuss BYU athletics alone?!?
Yes. The current rankings don't have much to do with prospects in the tournament, except that the seedings may make the road a little easier or harder schedule-wise. By the way, in 1997 the Utes finished no. 2 in the regular season final polls (one or the other or both) and got a 3 seed. Many teams with gaudy records and high rankings, particularly from conferences with questionable competition, have gone down early.
This isn't knock on BYU. Just a common sense observation, agreeing with you. This is a worthless thread.
I will give you an honest answer. I will be rooting against BYU.
Very good SU, let I out your frustration, you are among friends. You should know that I originally started this thread with you in mind. This can’t be easy on you, and you don’t have to go it alone.

Andre Miller never took shots with the level of difficulty that Jimmer has to take. Like I said before if Jimmer was able to take shots like Jackson Emery he would shoot 60% from the floor. Andre Miller is able to take similar shots and he shot 49%.
