  • OK Utah Fans, it's time to ask this question:

Disclaimer: Ute fans only on this thread, please.

With BYU sitting on a #3 ranking right now, we need to prepare for the possibility that the Cougs could make some magic happen in March. I know this question is hard for all of you to hear, but it needs asking:

Hypothetically, how would you respond to a BYU National Championship?

Me, I will be incredibly jealous, but furthermore I will develop an insane desire to top BYU in football program success. Success that can only be sated by a BCS Championship. If BYU wrenches the legacy of Utah college BB success from our hands, the only recourse is to take the college FB legacy from them.

What are your thoughts? You are in a safe place to share, BYU fans are not permitted in this thread.

Well, Being a BYU fan I just have to say it is incredibly early to be speculating a NC. You guys don't have to slit your wrists yet.

Not to be rude, but Please read the disclaimer.

BTW, it is not too early. BYU is the third best team in the nation, and a likely #1 seed.

I remember when Utah made their basketball run to the NC....I was cheering my guts out for them.

Does this action need to be confessed to my ecclesiatical leader? Or...does Bishop V handle this type of behavior?

Are you a Utah fan? I am confused.

As a magnanimous ALUF (you know the type, Hinkley, Monson, et al) I will be cheering for my brothers in blue, but rivalry is rivalry.

I don't know...I mean, we're already getting this Jimmer is better than Andre Miller nonsense. Add a NCAA tourney win or two his resume and those cries will just get louder. This is a slippery slope to be sure Wally.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Not to worry, the thought that Dave Rose will be your next coach will be all the balm of gilead you will need.

I could live with a BYU Final Four run. Its postseason history has long lagged behind its regular season history, and those things have a strange way of evening out. I could even live with a spot in the national title game. But I would be absolutely crushed if BYU won a national title. That's simply not their domain.

Meh. BYU is poised for a deep run, but an NC is unlikely. When it comes down to brass tacks, a team needs more than one nba ready player on the roster to win the title. I would be happy for our cougar friends to experience the joy of the final four. The memories are still vivid.

I'm calling myself a Utah fan, since I cheered for this team during their tourney runs...

All blue goggles aside, do you really not think that Jimmer is the better college player? I would love for Jimmer to have the same pro career as Miller, but just looking at college performance, I think Jimmer takes it. Miller was a fantastic point guard, but he wasn't even the best player on his own team.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

No sir...blue through and through. But I don't have the Utah hate as many do. I have always viewed our rivalry as a wonderful thing, that many universities don't enjoy.

I used to look at it as what is good for Utah, is good for BYU as it brought the national spotlight to our state.

Now that Utah has moved over to the Pac-12...I don't think I view that in the same light anymore. What's good for Utah....is just good for Utah and creates separation between the two schools. I think I feel the buds of disdain forming as I type...

I would rather have had Miller. Jimmer is the better scorer but I think Miller was a better basketball player.

It isn't even a real fair comparison. Majerus would never allow a player like Jimmer on his team. Perhaps Rick was wrong, perhaps he was right as it is really hard to argue with his consistent result in the decade of the 90's. But Jimmermania would not have been his cup of postum. Now Jackson Emery has Rick Majerus nearly crying in gushing and rambling comments about the kids heart and effort. Jackson Emery is Drew Hansen with legitimate Division 1 athleticism.
