What a surprise: Utah fans think Andre is the man, BYU fans insist it's Jimmer. (The latter seem to think there's no comparison, of course.) UteStar's stats pretty much tell the story, IMO. But I see the other side too.

Anyway, they are different kinds of players with different roles. Andre was never asked to be primarily a scorer, and Jimmer has been. Maybe Jimmer will have a better case after the tournament is over. And no, POY doesn't settle anything, other than establishing the level of recognition each player got based on the peers he played against in a particular year.

      Will YOU answer my question:
If you're an opposing coach, who would you rather face: Jimmer or Andre (at their college best, of course)?

I realize I'm not an objective source here, but I'd guess that if you threw this one to a group of national commentators, it wouldn't even be close.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

If asked today, I'm sure most coaches would say Freddette. In the world of what-have-you-done-lately, Miller's playing days are ancient history.

Of course, like you, I'm biased. Although surrounded by some great players, Miller still took his team to the Final Four and really frustrated UNC in the semi-final. Should Fredette take the Y to Houston, I'd be more willing to concede that he is better.

That's a "choose your poison" question. It can't be answered without adding the player's team. So comparing the 2011 Cougars with Jimmer to the 1998 Utes with Andre, I'd take the 2011 Cougars but I would not be happy about the choice.

I don't want to get too hypothetical here, but just to make my point: Imagine a choice between Jimmer on a crappy team vs. Andre on a crappy team: I'd take Andre because he'll make his crappy team better. Jimmer with a crappy team may or may not be able to beat you himself.

I'll go back to my original point: We're comparing apples and oranges. I'll take Andre because he's a Ute. Besides, he has a more compelling personal story.

Now you are just being ridiculous. Did Andre have a rapper for a brother? No. Case closed on compelling personal stories.

Ute Fans, please respect Wally's wishes and tell us how you would feel should BYU win the NC.
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

But that destroys whatever tenuous context you try and create when you compare Jimmer to Dre. When you bring in other accomplishments (All-American, CPOY, NPOY, whatever), now you're not only comparing the two players, but comparing the two players to OTHER players during their playing careers (ex. Miller to Brand to Jimmer to Sullinger/Walker).

Would you unequivocally say Evan Turner is a better college player than Paul Pierce?
