I want no part of an assistant coach. Besides, it seems like the Coach K coaching tree isn't much to write home about.
Seems like Amaker has done a nice job at Harvard, but he got fired from his first (maybe second as well) job.

We found out about the Tom Izzo coaching tree this last time around, so I tend to agree that we'd need to be turned down by a bunch of people before going the assistant route.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

      WCC vs. PAC seeding

I wonder who that someone is.

It wasn't I! But isn't what I said true? BTW, how many WCC teams are in the tournament this year? And how many PAC10 teams?

I'm pretty sure Amaker left Seton Hall on good terms to take the Michigan job. That one he was fired from. And his recruiting practices at Harvard came under heavy NCAA scrutiny. I'm lukewarm on Amaker as a candidate.

Oh, I don't consider him a candidate...I was speaking more to the K coaching tree.

Were you the old guy telling me to sit down?

            • I'm staying loyal to Mike Dunlap, the guy we shouldve hired last go-around.

              • To me, there are three things that are critical:

                1. Be able to get along with the boosters, AAU guys, and local high school coaches and be able to tap dance on that recruiting line. It seems to me that Boylen's biggest problem was that he dropped the ball on getting involved in the local hoop scene, eg: how the hell does Dobson go from CEU to ABQ?

                2. Preparation. I think that Boylen had this, but the problem was #3.

                3. Be able to get the kids to buy into the game plan and get high effort out of them.

Doesn't Dunlap have ties to George Karl somehow? I remember his name the last time around but that's the only thing clicking with me.

Looks like the Utes have a decent pool to work from.

Hobson was high-risk coming out of HS in Las Vegas. He was widely thought of as poison amongst coaches in the West. There are recruiting misses committed by Jimmy, to be sure. We can't blame him for that one. Especially since the coach at CEU was new -- a different one than the one who coached Tyler Kepkay. We might have had no relationship there.

Other than that, your first point is spot-on. Why have we never placed a single academically-marginal kid at SLCC? Norm Parrish is one of our own, and as stand-up a guy as there is in JUCO ball.

CJ Wilcox by far is the bigger miss in my opinion. I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that he told CJ he was going to change his shot and that was pretty much it.

                      • about tony bennett

Hi all, I'm a Virginia fan -- I just wanted to come in here and warn you all not to get too excited by the idea of Tony Bennett. I know as a Virginia fan during our recent coaching searches a lot of big names came up -- there were tons of rumours we were going to hire Tubby Smith. Then there can be a big let down.

It just seems extremely unlikely Tony Bennett will leave right now.

I'm not sure how familiar Utah is with our school, but it has a lot to offer for a basketball coach

                        - Nice new arena (one of the best)
                        - ACC basketball
                        - Great academics
                        - Lots of money for sports
                        - Talent rich area
                        - Host of NBA top 100 camp

We will also be quite good next year and have a strong shot at the tournament for the first time since he has been here.

Also, some people who are close to our program and the Bennett family have said this won't happen. There is a pretty well respected message board poster by the name of 'builtbadgers' who is close to the Bennett family. You can google for him and see that this is widely backed up by his history on Wisconsin/Washington St/Virginia message boards. He said that TB views Virginia as his destination job and that there is nothing to this rumour.

I know Utah is a strong job and I hope you can find a good coach to dominate the PAC-10/12. (try for shaka smart)

                        Good luck!

(ps: I'm surpised you guys aren't following private planes yet?! )

                          • ESPN rumors suggests Bennett is reaching out to Utah.

According to Mike Sorensen of the Deseret News, there has been chatter on internet message boards about Utah staying in-state to hire BYU's Dave Rose, BYU assistant Dave Rice or Utah State's Stew Morrill as its next men's head basketball coach.

Those aren't the only new names to pop up as potential candidates for the job. Another is Virginia's Tony Bennett, who in two seasons with the Cavaliers has failed to repeat his success he had at Washington State. Could Bennett return to the West Coast and take over at Utah as it is set to join the Pac-12 Conference? We think so. There are unconfirmed reports that Bennett has already reached out to Utah, and even if that is false it doesn't necessarily rule him out.

We'll keep you updated on the Utes' coaching search.

...but the source is utefans.net LOL

                              • sorry...

Its not like I'm coming here just with an attempt to burst your bubble -- I tried to be as polite as possible. Builtbadgers is a legitimate source. Unless you think someone built this persona over multiple years just to mess with Utah

"The sources I trust the most at this point in time on the message board would be UWOle and builtbadgers. If anyone thinks of others that are trustworthy enough for me to take info from them for my recruiting compliations, feel free to send me a PM on the BadgerNation board. "

"That's what I got out of Builtbadgers comments as well. He has ties to UVA and UCLA"

" 'builtbadgers' is VERY credible and knows CTB and basketball (college and pro) very well." - http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=190&f=2922&t=6374900

"BTW, if you are not familiar with "builtbadgers" on our site, he is a very connected "old-timer" nationally, in LA, and close to CTB. When he posts, which is not real often, it's like EF Hutton. "

There are plenty more like that -- i have no reason to lie and you really can find them yourself if you take more convincing.

Again, good luck in your search -- I'm sure you will do well!
