Current RPI ratings:
BYU - 5th, SOS 36, 2 Top 50 wins (30 and 31), 5 Top 100 wins
UNLV - 9th, SOS 27, 1 Top 50 win, 1 Top 50 loss, 3 Top 100 wins
SDSU - 22nd, SOS 120, 2 Top 50 wins (27 and 46), 3 Top 100 wins
Current RPI of remaining OOC games:
BYU - 179, 147, 193, 154
UNLV - 122, 253, 24, 272
SDSU - 247, 122, 209, 257
Assuming both SDSU and BYU head into conference play undefeated, BYU is going to carry a pretty significant SOS and RPI edge over the Aztecs.

Nice analysis. The Aztecs have had a good preseason ... for them. They are historically worse than this going into the season from an rpi and sos schedule. That said, I actually think the evidence so far indicates BYU is the best of the top 3 MWC teams. UNLV would have had that title with a win over Louisville. SDSU just doesn't have a good enough schedule yet.Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostCurrent RPI ratings:

The only real BYU weakness so far is no away wins of note. Only one tough away game and some tough neutral games. If they are as good as they are starting to show, I expect this year we have a solid chance of getting UNLV in Vegas and getting some quality away wins there.

I think BYU will lose at both SDSU and UNLV, but I think they get the game in Alby town the first rotation which if UNM is bringing in some transfers should advantage BYU. The key is consistency. Win all the home games, that which has eluded BYU the past two years and the reason BYU did not win the past two outright championships, and then win the games on the road which you should, something that has been a strength for BYU since Rose became the HC. If BYU beats both UNLV and SDSU at home I think they finish as the MWC conference champs when the dust settles.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostNice analysis. BYU and SDSU both play at UNM early (1/15 for SDSU, 1/29 for BYU), while UNLV makes that trip at the end of February. It should definitely more advantageous to take that roadie early in the conference season before UNM puts all their pieces together well.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think BYU will lose at both SDSU and UNLV, but I think they get the game in Alby town the first rotation which if UNM is bringing in some transfers should advantage BYU. As much as I enjoy watching Fredette, the most enjoyable thing for me this season has been the defense. I'm very impressed with the hustle and help. There are occasional lapses, as one would certainly expect over the course of 40 minutes, but the D has outperformed the O, even with Fredette going off on occasion.
Other pleasant things include Davies' progress the past four weeks, and KC, about whom I knew little and am surprised by his athleticism.

If KC goes on a mission I think when he returns him and Haws will really compliment each other. KC is a great slasher and good finisher around the rim. Haws has a great mid range game. If each of them could develop a bit of what the other has they will be a tough tandem to stop.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostAs much as I enjoy watching Fredette, the most enjoyable thing for me this season has been the defense. Especially with Carlino, i.e. Jimmer part duex, bombing from downtown!Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostIf KC goes on a mission I think when he returns him and Haws will really compliment each other. Let's get one thing straight. The first picture I ever saw of Kyle Collinsworth was on TBS and it looked like he was dressed for splits. There is no "if" Kyle Collinsworth is going on a mission. Now, I won't complain if he stays at the BYU, but I am convinced he goes on his mission after this year.
I love KC. I have made no bones about my opinion that until Jimmer, I believe that Travis Hansen was the best college basketball player at BYU this past decade. I think KC has a similar skill set to influence games and lineups like TeeHan did in days of yore. In fact I think he will be better offensively than Hansen, once he develops an outside shot. I think Kyle has a higher hoops iq and is a better ball handler than Travis- from his years of playing PG under such a good HS coach. I think he is every bit as quick and athletic as well. If he develops the strength that Travis had, KC will be able to guard opposing 1's-4's and that is why it would not surprise me if he plays as much power forward post mission as wing. With BYU's offense the 4, especially if he can shoot, can essentially be another wing. The key is on the defensive end, and I think an older Kyle Collinsworth will be able to guard most college 4's and the ones he won't be able to guard I doubt BYU will have anyone else on the roster who can.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I too think that KC has more upside and could be better than Slim. In fact if he is as good as Slim I will be ecstatic. I really like the way things are shaping up for the future. I actually wouldn't mind if Davies went on a mission after the season. That would give us a nice core in 2 years with him, KC, and Haws. We'd be lacking depth and height next year, but Hartsock, CC, and Anderson should be okay.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostEspecially with Carlino, i.e. Jimmer part duex, bombing from downtown!

Other than Carlino being signed by UCLA, is there a reason why we should be excited about him possibly coming to BYU? I don't know much about him other than his 14 ppg average in HS, which by itself doesn't do much for me.

Yep. Sky's the limit for KC. If he develops a shot, he's a future NBA player.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI too think that KC has more upside and could be better than Slim.
