I think this is exactly what I said in the game thread. The rumors about Katz reading my posts must be true.

Jimmer's a once in a lifetime player. Jax is very replaceable. I think Davies will be back. With Charles, Rogers, CC, Noah, and Brandon we're as good as we've ever been at the 3-5.

People are expecting Carlino and Harrison to be able to step in and be (very) poor man's Jimmer and Jax. At least in the sense that they can play a similar style and keep Rose's system going.

So huge drop off at guard but front court improves, and the system rolls on. We drop a lot but still a good chance to be a tournament team with a lot of potential to go up from there in the next few years.

It's all about Dave Rose. If he comes back we'll be fine. Lost in all the hoopla is the fact that Rose took a team with one superstar and a bunch of intramural players and took them to the sweet sixteen. Rose deserves a ton of credit.

The intramural comment is over the top, IMHO. Jackson has some real talent. More than one announcer said Davies has NBA potential and Noah was more than adequate as a role player. I give Rose a ton of credit and part of it is his ability to recruit above average players.

I do agree. If we lose Rose we will be hurting because I think that means Davies is gone too. Losing Rice isn't a positive either, but he is too good to be an assistant forever.

Jackson has defensive talent, but has only shown up offensively half a dozen times this year. Davies has a boat load of POTENTIAL, but hasn't seen the floor enough to really contribute. KC is another guy with potential but has only really contributed a couple of times this seasons (and I'm very high on KC. Love his game). Noah is a decent player, but it's always hit or miss whether he'll do anything.

I like this team, but the truth is that with the exception of Jimmer, most of the guys on this team are pretty much interchangeable with the starters from just about any other tournament team. It's a huge compliment to what Rose has been able to do with this team.

I agree, Rose has done a heck of a job. I would say mainly because he really didn't have much of a bench, especially after Davies was gone.

Rogers, Magnuson and even Anderson had their moments, but really not a strong bench, especially up front.

That seems a far cry from Intramural though. I don't think anybody disagrees with your premise, just the intramural comment.

No question this team over-achieved though.

Hey, when I was at BYU we had a kick-ass intramural team. James Anderson wouldn't have sniffed PT on that team.

That would be a big blow to lose him. But best of luck to him. I guess Bradley > Wyoming?

I think we are upgrading our talent 1-10 on our roster. Jimmer is off the charts but I think Harrison and Carlino are both more talented than Jackson. More importantly, I think college hoops is about coaching and our coaching is reaching elite status.

I agree with this. While irrational exuberance might be getting the better of me, I think that BYU is entering a bit of a golden period of hoops. I don't know if it is just an anomaly of talented LDS kids all at one time or it is that the growing LDS demagraphic is going to consistently provide more high end talent, but it appears to me one or the other. Do we all remember when Cleveland got BYU back to competitive and we wondered how BYU would look with all those mormon kids who were going to Stanford that BYU missed out on in the late 90's? Right now BYU is not losing those kids. It has helped immesurably that many of those kids are legacy recruits, but Demarcus Harrison is easily Nick Robinson or Julius Barnes. I think Rose's consistent winning, now finally on a national level, and his style of play makes BYU more attractive than it was 10 years ago. Now there are legitimate concerns that perhaps this is just all Jimmer Fredette greatness and the recruiting is more the result of legacy clout, and that BYU will regress to not winning an NCAA tourney game for another 17 years and not make the Sweet 16 until after I am retired. Time will tell, but I really believe that the talent is being upgraded and we will see BYU making a national level splash much sooner than we had to wait after Danny Ainge. I doubt many more Carlino's come to BYU, but the reality is the success of BYU is increasing the likelihood that more could come. BYU will be solid again next year and I think start building for some national runs following next year. I maintain that 2012-2013 is too early but I would not be surprised by another run to the Sweet 16 as early as 2013-2014.

However, if we lose Dave Rose then it could be a long wander through the valley of the shadow of doubt.

I assumed that Bradley could do better than Rice and obviously they could.
