Dave Rose named as a finalist for the Naismith coach of the year. Along with Steve Fisher, Thad Matta and Mike Brey.
Jimmer named a finalist for the Naismith player of the year. Along with Kemba Walker (ironic that he is the NPOY but not the Big East POY), Nolan Smith, and Jared Sullinger.*Banned*

Naismith website says Early April. No exact date. But I liked this write up on Rose:Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostNext week, I think.
Wooden is usually the week after the tournament is over.
Dave Rose:
Sixth-year head coach Dave Rose has led the BYU basketball to a 30-4 record and a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season title with San Diego State (14-2 league mark). The 30 victories tie a program record for wins set last season and nine-straight weeks in the top 10 is also a program first. The conference title marks the fourth in six years and in the two seasons BYU has not won the conference title under Rose, the Cougars have finished second place in the league standings. Under Rose’s direction, BYU is the only program in the country to earn both academic recognition from the NCAA and a tournament bid in each of the last four seasons. The Cougars boast the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Region in the NCAA Men’s Division I Championship.

I think you can remove Mike Brey. It will come down to Rose and Fisher. Fisher has done something unthinkable at a perenial doormat. Rose has the cancer survivor and BYU's national appeal not to mention the ressurrection of a season careening off a cliff a few weeks ago. If BYU upsets Florida and SDSU loses to UCONN, it will be Rose and Jimmer pulling a BYU!Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostDave Rose named as a finalist for the Naismith coach of the year. Words cannot describe how impressed I am with Rose et all. That game on Saturday, in light of the previous 3 weeks, was simply amazing. No doubt it was a good matchup for the BYU as the Zags' perimeter defense sucked like Jenna in "I Dream of Jenna," but I am still impressed with the difference in toughness, focus and execution from the disaster I sat 3/4 of the way through against UNM in Provo. Hell, I think even much of Utenation believes Rose has reached their lofty expectations that they could live with Dave winning the mad dash of exemplary HC candidates vying to take over for Jimmy Boylen. That is really saying something!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Still can't believe how Gonzaga didn't even try to hedge those high ball screens and let Jimmer shoot at will. But maybe they had just given up by that point.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think you can remove Mike Brey. It will come down to Rose and Fisher. While I was nervous as hell, at half I commented to my FIL that the only thing between this game already being an utter blow out and the score was Noah's and Chuck's foul trouble. In the second half the Zags had a gasp similar to how BYU started the 2nd half in the UNM game in Provo but once BYU fought back after the Zags gasp they followed Coach Knights advice "that since it was inevitable you might as well sit back and try to enjoy it."Originally posted by jay santos View PostStill can't believe how Gonzaga didn't even try to hedge those high ball screens and let Jimmer shoot at will. Good way to start a new rivalry with a basketball program commensurate to what BYU is accomplishing on the court. It will be fun for a year or two. Yo, Big 12 are you watching?!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

If a Connecticut team that was 9-9 in the Big East beats San Diego State will you all change your minds about the Big East this year?
If in fact this is a down year for the Big East, what does that say about the long term strength of the conference vis-a-vis others, based on a longer view than this snapshot in time?

No. Because Kemba Walker is one of the top 3 players in the country. In a one and done tourney game one player can win a game for you. Kemba has that potential. There is nobody on SDSU that can come close to matching his offensive output.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIf a Connecticut team that was 9-9 in the Big East beats San Diego State will you all change your minds about the Big East this year?

This venue could use some sort of uniformly and fairly applicated Jim Crow law to keep this asshat from participating!Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIf a Connecticut team that was 9-9 in the Big East beats San Diego State will you all change your minds about the Big East this year?

Without looking for correlation between W/L and Kemba's long slump, I would say that UConn is the cream of the conference when Kemba is playing well and below average when he's not. Right now he's playing the best ball of his life, so UConn is doing well. I have UConn beating Duke to get into the final four, which probably isn't very likely but I like to pick upsets.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIf a Connecticut team that was 9-9 in the Big East beats San Diego State will you all change your minds about the Big East this year?

But there's no way one can say that the BE isn't overrated this year. They got the same number of teams into the sweet 16 as a few other conferences despite their much greater opportunity.
