Dairese Gary: 15.6 pts, 5.7 assists, 35% from 3, 47% from the floor, 79% from the foul line and on the all defense first team. 36.4 minutes per game.

Jackson Emery: 13.6 pts, 40% from 3, 45% from the floor, 94% from the foul line, defensive player of the year, 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio. 33.4 minutes per game.

DJ Gay: 11.6 pts, 3.6 assists, 33% from three, 34% from the floor, 62% from the foul line.

How does number 3 make it over 2. I can see the argument for Gary but how does Gay make it over Emery. That is without looking at the head to head numbers.

That's because the MWC is about giving everyone an award. I guess they figured that since Emery is the DPOY then he doesn't need a first team award.
