As others have observed, this was excellent. Without wanting to divert attention from the thread's focus on the Utes' woes (and much attention is needed), what should we be worrying about? While this season was a high water mark over the past 20, what evidence is there that the tide is now receding? Rose is getting better each year, BYU loses to graduation only Tav, Miles and Morgan, and is bringing in (or back from the field) some very good talent.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostWhy don't you worry about your own team. Meanwhile, Boylen has just asked the dealer for four cards. And you're advising BYU and the other MWC teams seated around the poker table to worry?

This worries me about the near and not so near future. Another year of replacing more than 50% of the minutes gives yet another "rebuilding" year before we can appropriately judge Boylen's long term viability. The rumor was that the locker room was absolutely toxic. The exodus is a good sign that was the case. This isn't the pros. The coach is responsible for managing the locker room and the petty problems that come about. If you had to guess, I would say that Brown leaving is a sign that he didn't appreciate Henderson trying to upstage him on Offense."The first thing I learned upon becoming a head coach after fifteen years as an assistant was the enormous difference between making a suggestion and making a decision."

It'll be interesting to see where Brown lands. He's essentially pulling a Richard Cheany move and will have to sit out a year to play his senior season somewhere else.
I know runnutez, who had a cup of coffee on this board before taking off was very down on Carlon Brown and many pointed to Brown and Cyphers as the key components in the lockerroom issues on the team. If that is the case, then I say good riddance."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Maybe some good news: With everyone leaving, perhaps Boylen won't have any preconceived notions about who will play and who will start. Maybe he can completely rebuild with new guys and new attitudes. Too bad he ever made that flight to Beograd to fetch back Luka, I wonder how different the team would have looked this year. Cant blame him though, his trip to Australia to fetch back Luke got him a 5 seed.
Risk of bad news: With everyone gone, Boylen may build the new team around Henderson.

Hopefully an offseason of D-IAA weight training will make Foster, Washburn, and Glover viable options (so he doesn't have to build around Washburn).Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostMaybe some good news: With everyone leaving, perhaps Boylen won't have any preconceived notions about who will play and who will start. And if you think building a team around Washburn is bad, just think if he has to do it around Tavita."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

Look I liked Brown but to be honest he never was able to make the jump. He had all physical skills and at times showed he can be a difference maker (first unlv game and the michigan game). That being said he would disappear against inferior opponents make bad passes and shoot terribly. In short he was a more athletic Drca.
As for Hines he showed promise but for some reason boylen likes tavita so I can't blame hines for wanting to leave."Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. Unfortunately, I dont think a stronger Washburn will solve his basketball woes. He has such a perfect body for playing defense (with those long arms) but no understanding of where to situate his body on defense. Not to purposely bring a cougar into it, but Billy Donovan remarked how everyone thinks that Jimmer is lazy on defense, but that was not true. Donovan said that Fredette knew all of the angles to take, and expended the least amount of energy to be where he could disrupt the offense. (We've all played racquetball against the guy who could cut off all the angles with the slightest amount of effort). I saw Washburn with his back to the action time after time this year.Originally posted by BoylenOver View PostHopefully an offseason of D-IAA weight training will make Foster, Washburn, and Glover viable options (so he doesn't have to build around Washburn).
.
As far as Foster is concerned, I'd make him wear knee pads and play defense on his knees. Besides taking pressure off his healing ankle, he'd be forced to block out, and do many of the defensive techniques he's never learned because he didn't have to with his height.

This is the worst yet in a long line of horrible predictions. New Mexico, UNLV, BYU, SDSU, and a 14 win team that just had it's leading scoreer, a would-be senior, transfer, and you choose this moment to disemble? To suggest BYU will finish at best in 3rd isn't the ridiculous part, in fact may be close to accurate but you couldn't stop there. You couldn't resist a complete meltdown. You had to go and completely show your bitterness by suggesting the Utes finish ahead of BYU and by implication finish ahead of one of the other 3 teams that return a majority of their very talented underclassmen. That's not a bitter post at all.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostEven with what returns you'll be third place at best next year. I think the Utes may overtake you.
