  • If Canada can win finally win home gold, maybe BYU can finally get out of the first round.

I have posted several paragraphs of analysis explaining my prediction of a Florida victory. I have probably written more real analysis of that game than anyone here. On the other hand, I have seen nothing of substance from you, as usual. As usual, you are the board's purveyor of the tired cyberspace cliche and little else. If you can't say anyting of substance in response to points I've made about Florida's inside game, its quality wins, its SOS, Billy Donovan's NCAA experience and successes, etc. you can ignore my posts. You aren't one of the people I write for here in any event.

      • I hate to admit this but I do expect BYU to win in the first round this year. If BYU doesn't win a first round game this year, I will never expect them to win again.

Tell me, oh great Gator fan, which games you actually watched this year...or is all of this "great intereirior play" discussion simply arrived at from the 5 minutes you spent perusing ESPN 10 seconds after BYU's opponent was introduced? You simply aren't believable, SU. I come here to discuss relevant topics and right now BYU-haters pretending to have any sports knowledge whatsoever aren't relevant.

It's interesting, the more I read about the love BYU is getting the more I'm inclined to believe it's directed at the committee for some apparent gaffes on their part. I'm wondering if these experts aren't simply upset that their own alma maters weren't seeded better or put in the East bracket "where they belong". Perhaps it's my own insecurity (with cause I think).

lol Look who keeps wanting to talk trash? I have two extensive basketbaall analyses in this thread--BYU v. Florida and the Big East championship game. You are invited to respond to either one with your own substantive take. I see you still have not gotten around to giving us your basketball analysis and wisdom.

But I'm not interested in trading insults and talking smack with you. You're no cougjunkie or 3D.

              • you're giving yourself a lot of credit for "extensive analyses" that consists of having a hardon for florida's inside game, which includes no real analysis in re: statistics, specific players, or interaction with what's been a pretty effective 2-3 zone this year. oh, and calling an expert a "moron" because he only focuses on numbers.

What does that even mean? That's the problem with you, SU. You think people actually arrive on CUF to read your tired old garbage. I have no illusions that people come here to listen to me pontificate. Unlike you, my social existence lies beyond cyberspace so instead I come here to learn from others that actually know something. Listen to what others think about my team, other teams, music, and yes, even the occasional religious discussion.

Trash talk? THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT BYU VERSUS FLORIDA and yet you're posturing for no one in particular about Georgetown! Georgetown is not a part of this discussion, SU. Just stop making yourself look so impotent and move to another thread. Might I suggest the spring football thread or you could always bump the Sugar Bowl thread to the top.

Btw, the fact that you actually broke your self-imposed "BITF silence" speaks volumes.

Lighten up, Francis. You are taking this way too seriously. SU is a franchise here and many of us enjoy his posts. Even (and sometimes especially) his sports posts.

If SU is a franchise, then he is Pets.com, replete with the sock puppet mascot.

That's the saddest statement I've read all day. I love it when chat board gentleman's club members get all misty-eyed when one of their own are chided for being absolutely wrong by a member without tenure. Defending a moniker because you've shared a few online brewskies is truly a sad statement on 21st century social morays, it really is. Try taking YOURSELF a little less seriously, DUDE!

I was responding to a 3D comment about Georgetown-West Virginia.

Let's get back to the substantive discussion and to basics. Why has BYU not won in the NCAA tournament? Junkie suggests it's some kind of psychological barrier. I disagree. Except for an aberrant run here and there from UNLV, Wyoming or BYU (thirty years ago), among old WAC/MWC teams only Utah has won in the NCAA playoffs with any consistency. Ainge didn't even do it except for that improbable run his senior year. New Mexico has entered the tournament highly ranked before and disappoitned. What's going on?

I submit that there is a big disparity in athleticism between the MWC and some of these conferences. This means that records and statistic lie if the conferences and records aren't comparable. If 30-4 meant the same thing in the Big East as as anywhere else, Murray State would be a number 1 not a number 16 seed, or, Murray State will play itself into the Final Four (we'll see if that happens, I guess). Also, playing tougher competition makes a team more resourceful, more resiliant, gives it an edge. The SEC East was as tough and athletic as any conference.

I think that in this instance Forida's much superior inside game, the coach's experience in the tournament, and, frankly, a high level of raw, albeit very young athleticism at the guard line will carry the day against BYU. That's my judgment.

One thing BIF said that makes sense is that all this BYU adulation seems a little spooky. BYU is a fashionable team right now, despite the late season collapse. I wonder why. These sports writers are more interested in their stories and titilating fans than being right or honest. I'm not judging them, it's just the way it is.

That's more like it. It lacks real tangible analysis "high level of raw, albeit very young ahtleticism..." but at least it's on topic. The one thing I will say about BYU is that traditionally they've struggled when given the pregame nod, most noteably in football and now recently in basketball. I hope that this year is different and that your opinion proves to be incorrect.
