The New York Times just published an article a few days ago about how The Babylon Bee uses satire to "traffic in misinformation" and "capitalize on confusion." Their example?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostInterestingly, FB claimed that it "incited violence" so they not only blocked the post, but rescinded BB's commercial status on the platform. Yeesh.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/16/t...bylon-bee.htmlSo this is a blog about distortions and misinformation, and one thing I’ve noticed recently is that a lot of The Babylon Bee’s most successful articles in terms of online engagement are the ones that are … less obviously satirical.
Totally. And that’s landed them in some hot water.
Like, one from the other day was called “NBA Players Wear Special Lace Collars to Honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”
People were sharing that thinking it was real.
Yes!
They certainly play to that for virality — their best content is right on the reality-satire line.

I loved that one. I thought it was hilarious. I admit I was disappointed it wasn't real.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostThe New York Times just published an article a few days ago about how The Babylon Bee uses satire to "traffic in misinformation" and "capitalize on confusion." I don't disagree with the illegality of it. The officer is breaking the Florida law. I just question how many people would actually change their vote simply due to his presence with a Trump mask. I think its likely to be negligible.Originally posted by beefytee View PostSeems like a dismissal because of semantics. A person who is charged with enforcing the law is in fact the one breaking the law. A person entrusted with enforcement should definitely be held to a higher standard.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

"Nobody cares about Hunter Biden." Maybe what this Republican consultant and pollster is missing here is that people like Ted care and Trump's only strategy is to keep those people riled up. He's afraid if he says things that may attract non Trump fans that he'll lose some of his base. So is his core base large enough to win this time? We'll see, but I don't think it is.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHaha. You beat me to it.

Hey, who's dying Dude? Wrong, yes, don't do it, yes, but the idea that droves of people are changing their votes because a cop is wearing a trump mask is a bit silly.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHaha. You beat me to it.

I agree with this. I don’t care about Hunter Biden. He’s probably corrupt and he’s a loser but I’m not voting for him. Trump obviously thought this story was a big deal and it seems like a big dud.Originally posted by BlueK View Post"Nobody cares about Hunter Biden." And of all the ways to attack Biden, how ironic is it that he chooses to cry scandal at the thought of politicians children trading on the family name for profit. I don't know if that's lack of self-awareness or just hubris.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI agree with this. I don’t care about Hunter Biden. All I know is I find the BB to be something my parents might find funny. It's sad people can't recognize shitty satire aimed at nerds on cougarboard. I read the entire article and it basically contradicted it's own headline and came to the conclusion it wasn't intentional disinformation.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostThe New York Times just published an article a few days ago about how The Babylon Bee uses satire to "traffic in misinformation" and "capitalize on confusion."
