That would help, but I’ve heard that over half N95 masks sold in the US are counterfeit and we’ve done nothing over the past two years to get to a point that real N95s would be readily available to all Americans.Originally posted by old_gregg View Post
agreed, should be wearing now readily available n95 and kn95 masks."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. FDA FAQ's say no.

Omicron Optimist here for my weekly check-in. Danish chief epidemiologist just came out and said we will be all back to normal in two months, thanks to Omicron. When the Europeans are willing to admit it, you know we are nearly there. It is turning out to be exactly what the South Africans said it was initially. Still no significant death spike in South Africa and their wave has passed, and deaths continue to drop in the UK.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
Happy new year, Sunshine!
I read an article 2-3 days ago saying that computer models are showing that omicron should peek in a week or so. Super contagious strains typically peak quickly and then die quickly. Already peaked in South Africa. Let's hope that is the case.
Deaths remain too high in the US, but aren't spiking yet due to the massive Omicron surge. I wish there was better data available on variant deaths. The vast majority of ongoing death in the US has to be the unvaccinated with delta.

I think my wife and I may have gotten omicron while visiting relatives last week. I felt some minor sinus conjestion for maybe two days. My wife threw up multiple times one night and felt better after 2 days also. It's not possible to know for sure however because there seem to be no tests available. We're both vaccinated and boosted. If that was it then it was almost nothing other than a short period of feeling a little sick, more my wife than me.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Chicago schools are now closed due to Covid. It's been interesting to see some of the responses. You konw when you've lost Hannah Jones (Ida Bae Wells on twitter and 1619 project person) that you have gone pretty far...

Is it time to change the title of the thread to "When will the coronavirus pandemic be over?"
From the NY Times:
The details of the Omicron variant are becoming clearer, and they are encouraging.
They’re not entirely encouraging, and I will get into some detail about one of the biggest problems — the stress on hospitals, which are facing huge numbers of moderately ill Covid-19 patients. But regular readers of this newsletter know that I try to avoid the bad-news bias that often infects journalism. (We journalists tend to be comfortable delivering bad news straight up but uncomfortable reporting good news without extensive caveats.)
So I want to be clear: The latest evidence about Covid is largely positive. A few weeks ago, many experts and journalists were warning that the initial evidence from South Africa — suggesting that Omicron was milder than other variants — might turn out to be a mirage. It has turned out to be real.

The difficult part is going to be convincing the liberals that they no longer need to freak out about Covid. I suspect part of the overwhelming of the hospitals is due to midly/moderately sick individuals that are freaking out about having Covid when the would be just fine to stay home and recover. The liberals views on the virus are way out of synch with reality with many thinking that deaths are at a much higher clip than that data shows. I've got a feeling that bringing many of them down to reality is going to take some time, although it certainly will be easier than convincing the far right that Covid is/was an issue to begin with.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostIs it time to change the title of the thread to "When will the coronavirus pandemic be over?"

We don't need to inject any more politics into COVID. Hospital systems are actively encouraging patients with mild cases of COVID to stay the hell away. The majority of COVID patients in hospitals are there because they need to be. This isn't an issue that can easily be divided into a liberal/conservative thing.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

Are the people in hospitals still mostly unvaccinated? I imagine the proportion of hospitalized vaccinated is going up some under Omicron.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

In our area we haven't seen a bump in hospitalized patients with Omicron yet. But in the thick of the Delta wave about 80% of total hospitalized patients were unvaccinated. And a much higher percentage of those in the ICU and on ventilators.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post
