Wait, it isn’t common CS knowledge that Ted never reads his links?!?

We don't need to wear masks... All we need to do is this one simple thing:

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti defends maskless pictures: 'I hold my breath'
Garcetti and other top politicians and celebrities didn't cover their faces at the 49ers-Rams game during photos, drawing blowback from critics of mask mandates.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti claimed he held his breath while failing to mask up at a football game, drawing widespread criticism — and mockery — on Wednesday.
        [...]
“There’s a zero-percent chance of infection from that,” said Garcetti, the son of former L.A. County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.

          What a bunch of BS...

Strictly regular use of ivermectin as prophylaxis for COVID-19 leads to a 90% reduction in COVID-19 mortality rate, in a dose-response manner: definitive results of a prospective observational study of a strictly controlled 223,128 population from a city-wide program in Southern Brazil.

These Brazilians have sh*t for brains because all the Covid experts here say that ivermectin does absolutely nothing for covid. We need to wipe Brazil off the map for spreading false information.

There's a family in my ward that has taken COVID seriously enough - but this story was too funny not to share.

I was talking to one of the priests in our ward prior to church yesterday. His younger sister returned home from a weekend at grandma's house last weekend with a sore throat. Mom took her in for a COVID test and got a negative result. So this girl spends the week going to school, playing with friends, over at the other grandma's house who lives nearby, etc. Saturday rolls around and younger brother is feeling sick, so they get him tested. In looking at younger brother's results on Saturday, Mom discovers that she read older sister's results wrong - and they are both positive for COVID.

So they both stayed home from church yesterday. Ha!

Experts advocated an intervention they once thought useless

In light of the earlier consensus, Miller’s findings in Unmasked should not be surprising. As we might have predicted based on a plethora of trials and meta-analyses published prior to the pandemic, mask mandates have had little to no demonstrable impact on curbing the spread of the virus. Miller reaches this conclusion by comparing areas with mask mandates of longer and shorter duration with each other and with areas that never imposed mandates at all. The results, he shows, simply do not support the standard adage that “masks save lives”.

It is not difficult to see why mask mandates proved irresistible to politicians. Masks are the perfect form of hygiene theatre, conveying an intuitive sense of safety regardless of demonstrable efficacy at scale. They also offload responsibility for controlling the pandemic to ordinary people. The overcrowding of ICUs can be blamed on the bad behavior of “anti-maskers”, rather than on the allocation of resources by governments and hospital CEOs. When cases and deaths spike, it is the fault of the citizenry, not the leadership.

In Ted's mind, it's likely that one of the world's best medical systems is hiding the truth about ivermectin. And a preprint study that hasn't been peer-reviewed is evidence of that!

He's not wearing a mask at his basketball game because its effective. He has to wear it because it's mandated.

True, but that doesn’t mean masks are very effective.

Mask mandates are clearly ineffective so I’m not sure why anyone is wasting time on them, we’ll other than the political theater aspect of it.

Yet in just a few weeks it will have taken one million Americans from us, at a rate of half a million per year. It was pretty bad for them and their loved ones.

It is so hard for me not to see this as an indictment of us as a nation. We have tolerated people actively and openly shaming others who take a responsibly cautious approach to a pandemic that has crippled the normality of our lives. I long for those days before COVID. When will it all end? I get angry at those that prolong this hell.

I take offense at your "living on borrowed time" comment. There is likely context behind it that escapes me. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer but managed to live another five years on "borrowed time." She passed just four months before COVID hit the U.S. where she would have been among the vulnerable. It would have been a tragedy had COVID shortened her "borrowed time" by even one day. My sister was just diagnosed with another form of cancer that looks very serious. She's on "borrowed time." It will be a tragedy if COVID takes her earlier than we could expect for her under treatment. Original COVID put Noah down for one of the worst weeks of my life; I thank God he's been granted more "borrowed time."

When did we become a society that so openly views the vulnerable or our fellow citizens as just so much chaff on our way to a good time, personal economic gain, or expressing our own "personal freedom?"

Like I said, maybe there is context behind your use of "borrowed time" that I don't understand.
Borrowed time means that in both cases both individuals were pretty close to death, and had been very close on previous occasions, without Covid. In one case the individual just had been given a bad ticker from her Creator. I think the family took reasonable precautions but my guess is like most folks in this neck of the woods were not about to let Covid bring their lives to a standstill. I never discussed this specific issue with them but my instinct is they would rather live and enjoy their time instead of taking extreme pre-cautions to protect the wife. I am not sure what they could have done to protect her other than move permanently into their basement and never interact with other humans.

The other individual would not be referenced politely by most here. She was unvaxxed, despite her health situation being exceptionally vulnerable to death should she contract Covid, and very outspoken about it. One might say she was a "slow gazelle."
