Nurses say they are reusing N95 masks for days and even weeks at a time. Doctors say they can’t reopen offices because they lack personal protective equipment. State officials say they have scoured U.S. and international suppliers for PPE and struggle to get orders filled. Experts worry the problem could worsen as coronavirus infections climb, straining medical systems.

“A lot people thought once the alarm was sounded back in March surely the federal government would fix this, but that hasn’t happened,” said Deborah Burger, a California nurse and president of National Nurses United, a union representing registered nurses. Like many health-care workers, Burger blamed the Trump administration for the lack of equipment, noting the administration has insisted the responsibility falls to state and local officials, with the federal government playing only a supporting role.

Yeah, that seems to be the case. A lady I work with just went and got tested because her husband came home from work with a fever and aches. They were told they'd get the results in 5-7 days. So basically the data in Texas for # of cases is on a half week lag at best which almost makes the data meaningless if you are trying to get micro-trend data.

Her husband tested positive but he's not really feeling too ill. Just a fever and some body aches so not very bad.

Our school district just issued their reopening plan. It includes the option to either return to school for in-person learning or stay at home through on-line learning. This seems like a great idea to give households the option to choose and I'm hoping the district can pull it off since it's quite a change from a traditional school year. I guess people are already upset that they are being forced to choose one or the other (even though they can change that choice after the first quarter). I guess giving options to people is also socialism

There are some classes that just don't work online: Any non-lecture class with hands-on learning or active involvement like Phys. Ed., industrial arts, foods, sewing, etc.

Yep, and the district basically covered that in the FAQ by saying that if people elect online learning, some class still might require them to be on campus. Football is a good example. Football players usually have 7th period PE so they can have longer practice times. So a kid that elects online learning but is a football player would have to come to school for 7th period for PE and stay around for football practice. Some parents were apparently upset at this saying it is going to hurt kids that just can't be on campus due to immunodeficiencies, but what are they going to do? Cancel all extra curricular activities for everyone?

The district considered an alternating schedule where half the kids would go one day or one week and the other half the other time. That plan got shot down very quickly. It's just not workable for most parents when it comes to daycare, plus the lack of a routine would be difficult on everyone. Ultimately I think our district got it right...now I just hope a dozen cases don't pop up in the first couple weeks or everyone could be home.

I'm 20 days since my first symptom and I'm back to normal so this morning I got up at the crack of dawn and sat in my car for 4 hours waiting for a drive-thru testing. Once I test negative I can come out of quarantine. That nasal probe is no fun!

We have a 2 week Hawaii trip scheduled in November, including a condo right on Napili Bay for one of the weeks. We are assuming they will still have their protocols in place to require a negative test just prior to coming. My wife is considering not going, because she is afraid of the nasal swab
