  • LOL. Laugh the eff out loud:

President Trump told aides he’s willing to end the U.S. military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed, administration officials said, likely extending Tehran’s firm grip on the waterway and leaving a complex operation to reopen it for a later date.

In recent days, Trump and his aides assessed that a mission to pry open the chokepoint would push the conflict beyond his timeline of four to six weeks. He decided that the U.S. should achieve its main goals of hobbling Iran’s navy and its missile stocks and wind down current hostilities while pressuring Tehran diplomatically to resume the free flow of trade. If that fails, Washington would press allies in Europe and the Gulf to take the lead on reopening the strait, the officials said.

Of course, this could also be a timed leak to get the markets to rebound, which at least this morning they did.

    • This is an interesting article. Surprised it has not gotten more traffic considering the breach of our base by drones and for how long and what is stationed there..

Who Is Spying on America’s Nuclear Triad?

[QUOTE]A recent swarm of drones over an American military installation with nuclear weapons ought to change that. During the week of March 9, several waves of 12 to 15 drones flew over Barksdale Air Force Base, in Louisiana. They loitered there for as long as four hours at a time. These were technologically advanced drones, far more sophisticated than those a hobbyist might own. They were also reportedly resistant to jamming.

According to a confidential briefing obtained by ABC News, “After reaching multiple points across the installation, the drones dispersed across sensitive locations on the base,” indicating that the drone operators had a preplanned list of targets to surveil. They may also have been sent to test U.S. defenses.

What makes the incident particularly worrying is that Barksdale is home to the 2nd and 307th Bomb Wings, each with dozens of nuclear-capable B-52H bombers. These aircraft are part of the U.S. nuclear triad of bombers, land-based ballistic missiles, and ballistic-missile-armed submarines. Barksdale houses the Global Strike Command, which controls the Air Force components of the nuclear triad. The United States does not publicly disclose where nuclear weapons are stored, but Barksdale seems a likely location.

Drones the size of those over Barksdale can travel only short distances from their operators, typically about 20 to 50 kilometers. That limitation, plus the nature of the vehicles and the target of their surveillance, strongly suggests that malign foreign actors launched them from inside the United States./QUOTE]

      • I listened to an interview with Robert Pape who had some interesting takes on the Iran war. He seems to think that the impetus (which I think we mostly agree on here, has been extremely vague) is primarily Iran's nuclear ambitions. If i understood him right, he suspects that after the bombing strike on the nuclear facilities, Iran's enrichment capabilities were severely damaged but that now we are in the dark on where the already 60% enriched uranium is and that there was fear was that Iran's leaders were up to something more concerning with that remaining uranium. He argued that Trump is now in an escalation trap, with Hormuz and Nukes on center stage. He thinks that despite the opening salvos of ceasefire demands made by each the US and Iran, the best case scenario is letting Iran resume nuclear enrichment for energy but insisting on more meaningful and transparent participation in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and that in exchange for that, the U.S. insists that Israel sign on to join the NPT and also subject themselves to those requirements (which they are not today). I don't recall if he had any suggestions for negotiation on Hormuz.

Either way, Trump needs to tie this up quickly, and Iran knows that, so he's gonna have to make concessions, but like all good negotiations, each side will claim they strong-armed the other into submission, and "won" the day.

If Trump cannot/will not concede on some terms and negotiate a conclusion to this situation, then we are looking at getting dragged into a whole "regime change" conflict.

        • These are interesting videos. This one provides an answer as to why the USS Tripoli and its marines are headed to the Straight of Hormuz. This video claims it will support the minesweepers.

          • Great, based on Trump's remarks tonight, prepare for a forever war in Iran. Trump made one of his "two week" promises.

It's been 297 weeks since Trump promised his health plan in "two weeks".

What I would give to be back to the two weeks until infrastructure week.

                • So constantly humiliating our allies, telling them to eff off and then soliciting help isn't going too well. Spain has closed its air space to US war planes and Italy has denied landing and refueling rights in Sicily.

Trump or Franklin Graham? Only one of them can be “the most” embarrassing.
