I think it has a lot to do with policy. They share a disdain of DEI and it making equity of results the litmus test of equality of opportunity. He has real world experience on the ground in the military as a company grade officer and insight to how the efforts to socially engineer our society impact the fighting capacity of the military. I think he lacks the experience to be helpful in strategic concerns and he also lacks the organizational leadership experience at high enough levels to likely bring to fruition the change he is charged with bringing to pass- but make no mistake that he shares Trump's policy objectives wrt the Department of Defense.

I am not so convinced Armegeddon is right around the corner. Hell even OxfordCoug is gettin' it now!

Yes-I believe any policies intending to make equity of results as a litmus test for equality of opportunities will hurt combat readiness as it subordinates meritocracy to other priorities for decision making. I think his experience as a junior level officer gives him insight into how DEI motivated policies impact combat readiness of small combat units. I am convinced you will be convinced he supports Trump doing illegal things. My concerns about him is his lack of any experience in the strategic realm, his military experience is smaller units so it is purely tactical realm and since the military he has been a talking wanker. I also find his lack of high level management experience concerning-it will likely mitigate his effectiveness. You ought to find some optimism in that.

But at the same time, because of that, he will be heavily dependent on the "unelected bureaucrats" to help him in decision-making and getting things done. But since this crop has sold out 100% and their careers are dependent on him he can nominate with impunity and dare them to vote nominees down. I would love to think there is some spine amongst them to vote no (at least to Gaetz!), but I doubt it.

I could be wrong, but a lot of these have multiple purposes, one being Trump is using them as loyalty tests. He wants to suss out his enemies among the repub senators and primary those that won't kiss the ring.
