My guess is that Trump's team is concerned about China gaining standing vis a vis the U.S. in the world community. China appears to be through the worst of the virus and is now offering assistance to other countries while the U.S. is struggling with the virus (just passed China to #1 in number of cases) and asking other nations for assistance (but not likely China). As crass as it is to remind everyone where this thing started, that might be the best card to play right now.

    That is my guess.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Agreed. Who cares about that statement. Don't know why effort is put into those things at a time like this. But good hell, what are we doing?

I was going to post something similar but you said it better than me. There will be ample time later to reassess our relationship with China and hold them accountable for their disinformation throughout this crisis; insisting on the Wuhan virus thing now is silly. On the other hand OMG whatever will we do if the G-7 doesn't issue a statement?!?!

Hard to believe, but politics are becoming more insufferable than ever in this crisis.

It's absolutely important for the world to unite and have a reckoning with China over this. From failure to shut down the industry that is spawning all these viruses to the disinformation that probably worsened the overall spread, there needs to be a difference going forward in how the world deals with them. But using a silly name for the virus now is not going to be what makes the difference.

          Also there is this: https://www.businessinsider.com/coro...g-cases-2020-3

Microbiology experts in Spain have said that rapid coronavirus tests that the country bought from China are not consistently detecting positive cases.

The error was discovered as Spain is in the grip of one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the world, second only to Italy in the number of reported deaths.

Studies on the tests done in Spain found that they had only 30% sensitivity, meaning they correctly identify people with the virus only 30% of the time, sources told the Spanish newspaper El País.

              • Trump is feeling increasingly irrelevant as governors and mayors take the lead on local response. His county-by-county rating system, if it ever becomes a reality, will simply be ignored. So now he throws this out. I'm sure he perceives that he needs to be seen as doing something. Should focus on getting the medical equipment the governors and mayors need to fight this things. And testing, get test kits!

I do find it odd that he took so long to implement that defense security provision where he could order companies to produce certain products. I would have thought he would encact that much earlier.

Trump says he is considering quarantine of New York metro area; Cuomo says he has not been told of possibility

Those dumbasses in NY have the resources but can't manage them:

Then King started hyping New York governor Andrew Cuomo, gushing, “But we heard New York Governor Andrew Cuomo ask for ventilators. He gave very specific numbers. Do you think he doesn’t know what he’s talking about when it comes to this issue? When he’s in constant contact with New York – the top New York hospitals, by the way, that are in trouble.”

Adams, who received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on chronic disease prevention, countered:

Well, I think that if you – I think that’s a fair question, and I think that if you talk to experts, Dr. Fauci, Dr. Birx and others, the models in many cases are way off. New York City, we actually have people on the ground who have told us that there are 1,000 ventilators sitting in a warehouse right now that haven’t been used.

You heard Governor Cuomo yesterday say, “Look, we actually have resources, they’re just mismatched.” And so, we sent a team, a FEMA team to help New York City make sure the resources are getting to where they need. I talked to people in western New York who said they’re furloughing nurses in hospitals in western New York State while people in New York City are suffering. We need to make sure we get the right resources to the right people. And that’s what we’re committed to doing.

Maybe Drumpf is trying to save the rest of the country from all the dumb decisions being made in NY.

Rhode Island Police to Hunt Down New Yorkers Seeking Refuge

Rhode Island police began stopping cars with New York plates Friday. On Saturday, the National Guard will help them conduct house-to-house searches to find people who traveled from New York and demand 14 days of self-quarantine.

I saw some people with NY plates driving around here in Utah. I should have called the sheriff on them.

                        • Trump beats a retreat on opening the country as coronavirus data, images show dark reality

“Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won,” Trump said at his evening news conference. “That would be the greatest loss of all.”
                          Wow! Simply earth shattering.

Move over Sun Tse, there's a new sheriff in town.

I'm just glad that a number of reasonably competent people at the federal level seem to have taken over the decision-making. A real leader should be out front, making decisions with foresight while educating and inspiring those he's supposed to lead. Trump has lagged behind and failed miserably in those areas. But it seems like those working under him just roll their eyes and go about their business. Carry on, good people, and ignore the presidential sideshow.

Yeah, he is increasingly irrelevant in fighting this thing. He is only relevant when he wants to do something that will be harmful, then suddenly everyone is on pins and needles.

Fauci is simply awesome and immune to being fired by Trump. We need to wrap him up in bubble wrap and put him in that undisclosed location.
