  • What's worse? Openly musing about shoving UV light or injecting disinfectant in your body, or deliberately spreading disinformation just to pwn the libs?

it's funny because this is 10x worse than just admitting to spitballing and the quote being taken out of context (which it was).

      • And here’s the video, just in case Ted thinks the media’s reaction is suspect:

A fundamentally unserious leader. Just what we need in a pandemic.

        • As much as I enjoy the full humiliation of this sociopath, it cannot be a good thing for the rest of us for him to be in this position.
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

          • Republican strategy memo advises GOP campaigns to blame China for coronavirus

A new Republican strategy memo advises Senate candidates to blame China for the coronavirus outbreak, link Democrats to the Chinese government and avoid discussing President Trump’s handling of the crisis.

The 57-page memo, drafted by a D.C.-area GOP strategist, was distributed to campaigns this month by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. It’s existence was first reported Friday by Politico.
So crass. I guess the Repubs need a strategy, and to deflect all attention away from how badly Trump is handling the COVID response (that “inject disinfectant” musing so exposed him for what he really is), but this is horrid. Trump and the Repubs are obviously setting up to blame everyone else: WHO, the Chinese, the Dems, the governors and mayors, incompetent administration officials. Watch FOX and you can see it happening. New reports are that HHE Secretary Azar is on the chopping block.

                • The pandemic and the waning of American prestige

“America has not done badly, it has done exceptionally badly,” Dominique Moïsi, a French political scientist and senior adviser at the Paris-based Institut Montaigne, told the New York Times in an interview in which he also decried the “brutal” nature of the United States’ capitalist system compared with Europe’s more humane social democracies. “America prepared for the wrong kind of war,” Moïsi added. “It prepared for a new 9/11, but instead a virus came.”

“The numbers turning to food banks are just enormous and beyond the capacity of them to supply. It is like a third world country,” Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz said in an interview with the Guardian last week. “The public social safety net is not working.”

Stiglitz, a frequent critic of Trump, also lamented the president’s disinterest in building global alliances and forging meaningful cooperation at a time of crisis. “I hope we emerge from this with the perspective that multilateralism is even more important than we thought,” he said.

There’s little indication that that’s a lesson getting internalized by the White House, which seems more interested in weaponizing the pandemic to pursue a far-right, anti-immigration agenda than in holding out a hand to the rest of the world.

“We are not leading in the pandemic response, we are trailing other countries by a long shot,” presidential historian Douglas Brinkley told Politico. “This is a crippling blow to America’s prestige.”

Yes, the lockdown needs to continue... We have California about where we want them:

California could become first state to borrow to pay unemployment benefits during coronavirus crisis

Within the next couple of weeks, California’s unemployment insurance fund — which was the most-insolvent state fund coming into the coronavirus crisis — will run out of money. It’s vying with New York and Ohio to be the first state fund to go negative since the last recession.

California To Offer $500 ‘Stimulus Checks’ To Undocumented Immigrants

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced today the creation of a $125 million Disaster Relief Fund to assist undocumented immigrants in the state who are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund will disburse a one-time payment of $500 per adult (capped at $1,000 per household) to approximately 150,000 undocumented adult Californians to help with specific needs related to the coronavirus outbreak.

                      • Ugh.

IRS stimulus payment recipients lash out against Trump’s ‘vanity letter’

However, what should have been an instructive letter coming from either the Treasury or the IRS reads more like a message that the Trump reelection campaign would send out to voters.

“Just as we have before, America will triumph yet again — and rise to new heights of greatness,” the letter says.

                        . . . . . . .

“Worried that I had been selected for an audit, or some other misfortune, I quickly opened it,” Chris Helmsworth emailed from Portland, Ore. “Inside was a letter from the White House, signed with Trump’s childlike scrawl, telling me about how he was bringing the country together! I have to wonder how much personal protective equipment could have been purchased with what it cost for Trump to send out this vanity letter.”

                        • So, I think Trump's vanity letter is lame but I think this article is equally lame. "Trump's childlike scrawl"? There is nothing wrong with his signature. Wondering about how much PPE could have been purchased for the cost of the letter? Oh brother. Chris Helmsworth sounds like a progressive douche.

Lameness and douchiness on the part of both Trump and the WaPo.

                            • LOL... What a bunch of dumbasses. They should have just had those checks directly deposited electronically. They would have got their stimulus money a lot faster. Let me guess... these dumbasses are democrats.

You get the letter regardless. I got one a few weeks after the money was direct deposited in my account.
