I don't actually think he wants to be a dictator. I just think he really wants to do a bunch of corrupt things that will personally benefit him and get away with it, just like a dictator might. I really think that he has such a frail morality and/or intellect that he honestly doesn't understand why certain things are wrong and why certain laws are in place.

So what you're telling me is that you created a straw man and then beat the hell out of it.Originally posted by BlueK View Postwell, I didn't say what you just did above either. He's incapable of putting together much of a plan to do anything. We all know that.
But he would love to be, and that he orders his lawyers to make nonsensical arguments to essentially argue for it, is bad enough to hope he's out as soon as possible. I mean, essentially what is a dictator in practice if not a president who can commit any crime with no consequence?
Of course Trump would like to be dictator. Where has anyone said that Trump doesn't want to be a dictator - I don't think anyone here is saying that Trump wouldn't enjoy that. Dude is a narcissist who is used to being a dictator...er...CEO...of his company and getting to make whatever decisions he wants without input from anyone. Of COURSE he wants to do the same here as president. I'm not sure who would deny it. His most ardent supporters might even say he would make a good dictator.
In all honesty - there are probably few presidents who wouldn't have loved to be dictator and able to implement their plans without meddling from congress and the supreme court.

No, I was complaining about his stupid argument that he should be immune no matter what because he's president, even if the crime is murder. That isn't a hypothetical. His lawyer actually just made that argument to a judge. That's what makes it timely.Originally posted by Eddie View PostSo what you're telling me is that you created a straw man and then beat the hell out of it.

I honestly can't see what you're trying to argue about since you're agreeing with me about his character and dictatorial motives. I don't agree he's the same as all previous presidents. I think that's a stretch if you're arguing that.Last edited by BlueK; 10-23-2019, 02:05 PM.

That's giving Trump extra rope without running the risk of appearing to support him. Kind of like all the people who voted for him but didn't admit it until the coast was relatively clear."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Trump is a different animal than what we've seen before from either party. There is no sane argument that he's the same. More to come. I think there will be a day a few years from now when almost no one will admit they ever supported him.Originally posted by Commando View PostThat's giving Trump extra rope without running the risk of appearing to support him. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Look, even if the law were that the president is immune from prosecution for crimes committed while in office it would not make the president a dictator. The fact people say this just pisses me off. It's an insult to the tens of millions murdered by dictators, even deliberately starved, and the lives of misery beginning to end absent liberty. If anyone would like a reading list so they can learn what a dictator is, I'd be happy to provide it.
Americans are such drama queens. Here Trump is under an impeachment inquiry, he tweets and a string of responsive abuse appears instantaneously (the Gestapo would have had its hands full!). The NYT, WAPo, CNN etc are working full time to get rid of him, nobody doubts that next November the American people will vote on a president. Yet we have Americas whining that he's almost a dictator. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Well, it is. Trump hasn't actually murdered anyone, and his lawyers aren't actually asking the court to find that Trump can't be prosecuted for that murder while President.Originally posted by BlueK View PostNo, I was complaining about his stupid argument that he should be immune no matter what because he's president, even if the crime is murder. Yes, but even if the law did provide such immunity, it wouldn't make the president a dictator. That's like saying because water kills a lot of people every year, water is a dictator.Originally posted by creekster View PostAgree. I agree. My point is that this failure to think clearly is a result of TDS.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostYes, but even if the law did provide such immunity, it wouldn't make the president a dictator. The Axis of TDS (BlueK, Commando, frank ryan) can casually assert Trump is comparable to a Hitler-wannabe dictator (per above), but if President Trump uses the word "lynching" in a tweet then THERE IS GOING TO BE HELL TO PAY GODDAMIT!Originally posted by BlueK View PostNo way is Trump an aspiring dictator, right?
