The same goes with politics. Politicians could spend time understanding climate change science, doing cost benefit analysis on various solutions, and then proposing legislation, but that requires work and also puts the public to sleep. It's much easier to stir up anxiety so the public comes running to the politicians expecting protection from a boogeyman.
Your too close to it to see, but red meat will kill you.

It feels like I've had this argument a million times. Is there a new study out or are your relying on the same old tired research?

      • About the 'Trump being insensitive to military families' kerfuffle (no not the first, second one, or even the third one):

I'm inclined to give Trump a pass on this one. I can totally see him riffing with the wife of the fallen soldier, because that is all he ever does: riffs without thinking for a second what comes out of his mouth. So yeah, it's true this is the risk soldiers take. He thought it and he said it. Insensitive? Sure. But in his mind he most certainly meant well.

But good God, I am exhausted with his constant threats that he never backs up. Dude, if you have proof that you didn't say what the congresswoman says you said, and who now the mother is corroborating, let us hear it. You could prove dishonest motives with a democrat and the media in one fell swoop. This is how you win, idiot.

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I agree. It will always be a challenge for Trump to come off as compassionate and warm, because he isn’t those things. I think he was trying to express genuine condalences.

Is the research tired, or are you tired?

Maybe you're eating too much red meat.

I think in Trump’s mind he said what any normal President would have said, something along the lines of “I’m so very sorry you and your children have lost a husband and father, who was truly a great man. He knew the risks, but he courageously accepted those risks to serve his country, and now that country has a debt to you and your family it can never repay. We’re so grateful, and so sorry. etc. etc.” But no doubt he sounded like a goomba and his “he knew the risks” may have sounded like an “I told you so.”

Trump seems pathologically incapable of genuine empathy, and his verbal tool chest is that of a third grader’s, so he comes off sometimes as an insensitive lout, even when he intends no harm and wants to do the right thing.

If he is a narcissist, he is incapable of empathy, by virtue of the condition, if it is properly diagnosed.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about bullfighting.

                          • I hate Trump with the fire of a thousand suns, but this latest thing about what he said to the mother of a dead soldier is ridiculous. Yeah, Trump should not have said anything about what past presidents did or did not do, but this is something that should not be politicized. His conversation with that grieving mother should be kept private. Shame on that dumb congresswoman from Florida.

Agree. She is an idiot. And after John Kelly explained his feelings, I really cant believe that Trump and the representative went back at it. They deserve each other, but the families do not deserve to have that in the press.
